Hi wanted to rent this lens from camera rental centre. Want to seek advice on is it best I rent it or straight go for purchase. I'm using prime lens all this while. Planning to test shoot on her indoor birthday party.
Thank you

Up to you and your money. If you're so rich that you can buy just to test, then go ahead. We cannot make this decision for you, it's your money.

Well,if u have $$$ to splash then it's ok.Because this particular lens retail over $2K,depending on where you purchase.But it's really a heck of a lens.For me I can only dream on....Ha!

Yes..its your money..and its your decision. You can just buy it..use it..dont like it. Sell it. Or just rent for afew days then decide later. Either way...As long you have money. Its no problem. But the latter might be a better choice.

Unless you are very certain you will like it keep it or use it for a long time.

for about $40-$50, you can shoot for about 40 hours, that is enough for you to make some right decision to spend another $2k for this lens.

Renting should be your best option.

Well let me put it in this perspective for you.

If you have the money and you don't mind spending it, then buy it. Reason: if you like the lens, you can keep it. If you don't like it, you can sell it off. Whereas if you rent, if you like it, you can't keep it and still have to buy it.

A word of caution though: This method works better if you want to try it over a week or a month before deciding. If you really just intend to shoot for a birthday party and then decide, then maybe renting would be a less costlier option but this is likely a lens you'll enjoy using.

Hope this helps. Sorry I seem to be sitting on the fence on this one. haha

personally I would grab a used copy from BnS for an attractive price, then sell it off at the same price/ slightly lower if I am not satisfied with it.

Good thing about this approach is that you can play with the lens for weeks yet you don't lose much as compared to getting a new one or renting one for weeks.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions guess will rent it and see first. What is BnS?

BnS link: Buy/Sell: Canon Equipment

Used 24-70L is going around 1.5k for good copies. You can grab a used one, use it for a month or 2 then sell it off at 1.5k or slightly lesser. Assuming lens rental is $20 per day; 2 weeks will cost you $200 already...
