hi I am new here, but want to join Pentax family. want to buy K5 body this weekend, intend to buy the new Da 40 xs as my first pentax len. if any brother want to buy K01 but don't want this kit len, could you pm me for discussion? let's make it beneficial to both. cheers

can post on the pentax BnS session, the most sellers and buyers go to that section more regularly than this section

Found one brother willing to trade.cheers

I wonder why people are selling the 40mm XS? I've seen 2 or 3 for sale already. What's wrong with it?

Too flat. Lol. Just jokin. It is an excellent lens but the focal length might not be ok for everyone.

nothin wrong with DA40xs but a man got to choose between a DA40xs and FA43 ;)

already i am not using my FA43 that much so i really cant justify having 2 lens so similar in focal lens and becoz i shoot film as well..the choice was easier to make to let go which lens...but really..thats just me..some other pple might prefer DA40xs over FA43

A steal for the ~$300 in BnS. Its basically brand new.
I like it a lot for its slim profile. Slip it onto the K5 and the camera form seems to change to almost pns like.

Some folks already have 35mm, 40ltd or 43ltd, so it might not justify keeping the lens.

Glad that some1 doesn't need this Len. So we can trade.

Da 40mm xs is a steal . Great lens , great optical small and slim .
It had become a + 1 lens for my setup ( as in when u intend to bring 1 body and 2 lens , u can always +1 without worry for space and weight issue )

I always like to joke with my friend I can bring 3lens with a small camera bag (da35,40 Fa 50) lol

Problem now is the focal lens is just too near to my belove da35mm f2.4 .

Either one must go .... Which I think the chances of keeping 40mm is much much higher

Hi,
May I ask which is the better one to get if I don't have both? DA35/2.4 or DA40/2.8XS

From the reviews both are great performers, besides the obvious difference in focal length - the preference for either 35 or 40 is entirely personal - the 35 is cheaper while the 40 is dare i say more unique? you'll never find anything like the DA40XS over at C & N - those guys love their big boy lenses! :bsmilie:

one of the reason why I am at pentax now and one question from me to my friend which he held canon but he never reply me, how sad! Question is if USM fail then the lens becomes? Does it still autofocus?

People who live in glass houses should not throw rocks... Pentax has its fair share of problems with their SDM lenses. But of course all AF electronics can fail from time to time, if really worried just get old MF lenses lor. haha

I don't believe in SDM lenses. :) Or any lens with an AF motor. They should work on finding a way to make screw-driven lenses quieter, faster, blah blah blah, instead of just slapping a motor on every lens. After all, we all know that lenses will often outlast a few bodies easily.

Are they even selling the 40mm F/2.8 XS on its own? I don't think I've seen a price for that yet.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be getting a K-01, yet I'm interested in the lens. :bsmilie:

Depends on personal preference.
40mm is typically tighter in FOV in most practical shooting distances.
35mm usually shows a bit more of the environment and therefore gives a bit more context.
Outdoors, the difference between them is not much. Perhaps one step forward/backwards.
In tighter spaces, 35mm is going to give a bit more coverage.

So how many Manual lens does canon have actually? You should know some lens comes with dual focus and for what cash do I need to splash 5 figure on something that fails and people ssshhh like nothing happens. Might as well get a canon PNS

get k-01 then sell the body n keep the lens :p

Bleh, I hate dealing in B&S unless it's with people I already know...

It's always a gamble to see if people will be late, whether they will waste your time, etc etc. Of course most people are ok, just that it's always a gamble, like I said already. :bsmilie:
