I would like to get a photo printer for instant prints during my sister's birthday. Anyone has any economical suggestions? I am looking at Canon Selphy but printing 100s of photo with that cost a bomb as i was told that Canon's ink is very expensive altho the quality is top class.

thanks for any input!

The Selphys are not that good actually.

If you want to print a lot during the party, please search for the existing threads where such instant printing services have been discussed to death already.

Thanks. If thats the case, maybe I will just get the Selphy.

Rashkae, thanks, but i am looking to do it myself and not to hire a service.

FYI, these printers can only print one photo per minute, and it gets overheat easily, you want to cough out 100 prints in an hour or two, you need to hood up at least two of such printers or get an high-end printer which cost a few thousand dollars.

hope this help.

It's not a service. There are threads that detail exactly the kind of equipment you need. FYI, you will need at least 4-8 such printers to get the speed you need, or you rent a proper instant printer.

Canon Selphy printers don't use ink.
the cost of paper and ribbon of such instant printers is about the same.

Yes, the SELPHY range of printers DO NOT use ink. They print relatively slowly due to the dye-sublimation thermal print method.
Currently the Colour Ink / Paper Set (KP-108IN) is a box of 108 sheets of photo papers with 3 ink cartridges cost $37.90 at Challenger.

My suggestion, do not print but rather post whatever pics on facebook and have guests donate their pics to the album on facebook as well. believe me, it works much better then having 3 selphys all at once or renting a portable size mass printer.
