Question abt 50mm lens...

so should i get a 35mm which is abt 56mm on cropped body

24mm which is 38.4mm ..

Bro,

I felt the 35mm is a better choice for crop body.

One of the reason is that when you want to let go, it still holds its values.
and 35 mm lens is a great walkabout and street lens to use.

You obviously dosent quite know which focal length you're looking for.
Do you have a kit lens 18-55. Go try it..and see.. or maybe you dont even need another lens.

If you're considering the f/2.8 primes, why don't you just go for the 17-55mm f/2.8 zoom lens?

Else, go for the L lenses or the Sigma 30mm f/1.4.

Yes, in FX mode, with very little vignetting if you shoot wide open and don't focus too close. However TS is using Canon system, so that option is not suitable for him

Portrait also got a lot of type, headshot, full body, half body, funny, serious, etc. What kind of portrait you want to shoot will determine what focal length you use. It can range anywhere from 10mm to 600mm.

To TS: heed this advice, TWmilkteaTW nailed the answer. Zoom your kit lens to 24mm/35mm/50mm and take a few shots, ask yourself which is the best focal length that fits your need.

It is silly to get a prime lens just because "others say so". You seem kindda lost on your last reply... most likely you don't even need to get a prime lens.

Whats wrong with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS you had?
Its huge? frankly speaking...its not any much bigger than a prime.. its not even a L lens..not that huge and heavy. If its big..then maybe you shouldnt even be using a DSLR.. And it has 18-135...provides you so much room to play with.
