How to check if its a genuine Nikon Dslr

Hi guys! As topic-ed. Couldn't really find this topic from google so I have to post it here.

I was going to meet up a seller who will be selling the D7000 at a quite an affordable price but he said his boxes and warranty cards were gone.

Couldn't produce that, with the cheaper price, I couldn't help but wonder is it a genuine dslr.

Is there any way to check the dslr body whether is it genuine or it isn't? If there is, please guide me and if there is none, god hope I do purchase a non-fakie..

Hmm I have yet to come across or heard about fake dslrs but if you need peace of mind it's best to bring along a friend who knows about about Nikon dslrs and particularly the D7000

but it may b a grey unit.

then go buy those more expensive 1 lo haha....

if not just go get a brand new 1 from shop with nikon warranty 100% genuine

so you dont have to worry so much ^^

but somehow quite funny also, some seller have box but warranty card and receipt lost abit funny? r they trying to hide something? (maybe the age of the cam?) :dunno::dunno:

I believe it could be a grey set, cheaper. but never heard of fake.

Perhaps I'll take my laptop to check. Take a few shots and check the image. That is the only solution to check is that indeed a real D7k and is the lens real.

remember to check Shutter Count also ^^good luck!

lol...nvr heard of fake lense either...
but a look at the shutter count could probably tell u if the cam has gone through a lot of snaps

The camera can't be that old.
It was launched around Oct 2010.

I've never heard of such thing as fake camera unless its a toy and does not take photos at all.

Maybe check if the brand on camera is really "Nikon" and not "Naikon" and "D7000" is not "D7K"

Check the shutter count if you want, and of course check that it has no problems (ie. stain on sensor; oil on sensor; AF problems; etc).

Oh oh. Looking at the AF just made me realize, if I switch off AF on an AFS lens d7k's AF totally not focus isn't it?

But if I mount an AFD, it should be able to AF?

Not too sure about Nikon camera, but if you switch off the AF switch on your lens, then it cannot autofocus, but you can manual focus.

Some shops offer 1 year shop warranty. so u can ask how long that person bought already.

It takes good pictures. If it doesn't it's not a Nikon.





Jokes aside, I don't think people like to fake DSLRs, not so easy to fake.. YOu should be more worried about cosmetic damage indicating signs of a drop, corrosion of the ports, battery problems, fungus on sensor, etc. Loads more other things to worry about when you see a cheap price than a fake DSLR.

If something is too good to be true, it usually is.

Hmm i bought a 2nd hand D7000 in less than a year after it was launch at below 1.2k, no box no warranty, only stuff that comes in the box.
heard from seller tt he bought it from HK, to avoid detection well going through custom he hand carried the cam in the bag and threw the box away.
Could be similar case to urs.

On my Bday my gal friend gave me a present, tore off the wrapper and saw a golden box with the words Nikon ASF 24-70 f2.8 writen on it. i was like "Are u F***ing kidding me!?" open up the box took the lens out and it was a bloody thermal cup. The disappointment i had back then... lol:bsmilie:

There are no fake DSLRs, only fake sellers. Not saying that seller is fake. There are some people who puts ridiculous cheap prices on a D3X and asks to pay through online payment.

Just beware of stolen goods.

The onus of proof that you didn't steal it is on you once it's on your possession.

Hopefully mine could be the same case.

After checking grey set on Nikon website, guess I'll request the serial number from the seller and phone Nikon service center to check the genuine of the serials.

Qystan, hopefully that can also check whether is it a stolen goods

Will update you guys if this works
