Is there any D700 price cut? US just cut US$500 of D700.

Hopefully nikon singapore can do the same.

Can hear the collective groan of existing D700 owners already :)

Where did you get this price cut news? Saw in Nikon USA page it is $2699 (vs D800 $2999).

D700 is definitely still being made, as the parts inventory, I was told, has not been used up yet, so the entry level FX camera will remain D700 for a while. So the price cut make sense - to entice buyers as the $300 difference is not enough to lure people from D800 but $800 will bring in the next level of consumers.

There is also rumours that D400 will also be FX, guessing it will be 24MP (taking the D3x sensor). The rumour went on to guess (how about that, rumour then guess!) D700s will come on stream with D3s sensor, making the lineup D7000, D700, D400 (24MP FX), D700s (12 MP FX - when inventory of D700 runs out), D800, D4.

Making me think twice before launching on any product... for my primary reason to upgrade is to get my underwater rig up-to-date, and while underwater one cannot change lens, and the housing cost as much or more than the camera body - so I need an all-in-one (all features I need in one camera). Hmmm... 24MP FX? 12MP FX? 36MP FX? Which one. Can't get D700 as it does not have video function - not that I will use it much, but would be good to have it in my UW rig.

yup, actually it makes perfect sense for nikon to sell the D700 at a cheaper price once the D800 is out.

The point is whether nikon Singapore thinks our market is worth the trouble of selling the D700 together with the D800.

They only cut the RRP... But it is only effective in March..

Why should there be groans for D700 owners? If there are groans, they are from pleasure, from having enjoyed the delights the D700 has offered & now being offered to those who "lusted" after it but unable to afford or unwilling to pay the price :) Like all cameras, the value will drop over time, it will be discontinued & slowly but eventually fade into obsolescence. I think the D700 has been a very special camera that inducted many into FF & provided pros & enthusiast alike, the joys, thrills & satisfaction of photography as a creative art, a hobby or as a mean of making a living. I am quite sure many owners are not ready to embrace the D800 just yet or will hold on to it as a backup. Lower prices are always welcomed :)

The change in prices is too attractive.
I'm now seriously considering cancelling my D800 preorder and getting a D700 instead.

This breaks the heart of those who just bought a brand new D700 after D800 specs were announced or those who gave up waiting for it's ever uncertain shipping/delivery/availability date.

Shashinki!
I'm fourth in the list. A pity, but the 36MP is really making me reconsider thrice.

Lol, I think it's more heart-breaking for anyone who bought a 2nd hand one recently...they can buy 'new'.

Haaa I am one of them... But no, I don't feel the pain... When the price going to drop??? Not today, tomorrow or next day... Wait for it to drop... I would have miss loads and loads of shots this few days/weeks.... Will wait for D800 instead and see how it goes...

Did anyone hear anything from nikon Singapore? Nikon Singapore DSLR prices is pretty competitive to what I can get from Amazon US. I hope we get the reduction in RPP too.

I am have a D700 but want to get a 2nd body. It is either D800 or D700 if it is significantly cheaper.

Gosh! As I was reading this, I just had an 'eveel' thought. Sell your d700 for a (still) decent price now, when d800 out, buy 2 d700 for (in)decent price...

I already know I won't need to worry liao. The storage space problem is not as bad as I thought. At 12-bit lossless, 30+ MB raw file is still manageable. The most I will need only 2 sets of 16GB CF+SD cards to cover the entire event. And one more set on my D300s.
