Canon S90 @ high ISO prforms the same as the Leica M9

Lucky you, saved by Ken Rockwell.

Next thing where you can save money is a tripod. Kenny says: who needs tripods any longer when we have great IS/VR/OS in the lenses?

lol..in order to have so powerful IS/VR/Whatever.. hmm maybe 5-10 years later...if it were to happen. which also means. Your body or lenses probably cost more.

as usual... Kenny's words somehow seem to be from another dimension

Ken Rockwell: S90 High ISO Photos Look Like the Leica M9 at The Phoblographer

Whew! And I was just about to click "Submit" on my Leica M9-P + Noctilux 50mm f0.95 kit online order. Will stick to my S100...

If you are buying the Leica M9 for ISO performance, you are better off buying something else like the D3s or the coming D4 which will perform better. Which also means you do not understand what makes Leica so popular to have a such a following.

You're not very good at detecting sarcasm huh?

Same reason why I sold my Ferrari for a QQ, because I pay the same ERP charges! Damn! ;(

Daredevil123 always give more reliable and accurate advice than Ken Rockwell. Sarcasm is not his specialty.

Would it make you feel more prestige if u get to pay more ERP than a QQ? :p

No way! The opposite actually! ERP are meant to punish those who drive slow and cause all these traffic jams; my Ferrari so fast should pay lesser ERP! :bsmilie:

But Ferrari got higher COE, fuel consumption, insurance, maintenance, road tax etc. etc. Quite logical to downgrade what, especially if the owner is tightening his wallet for some reason.

Canon S90

"5.) Amber/Blue and Magenta/Green White Balance trims!
Even my LEICA M9 can't do that, and if you load up the LEICA M9 with similar lenses to what the zoom of the S90 can do, you'd have to spend about $15,000 for the Leica system."

OMFG buying an S90 is going to save me USD$15,000. Ken Rockwell, you are my savior!!!

Never heard that buying Leica M9 is because of its high ISO performance.
Just like you never expect to get durian taste when you buy apple.
Maybe next round Ken Rockwell say that Canon S90 @ high ISO performs the same as Canon 5DMkII and Nikon D700, then we can see more people dumping their 5DMkII and D700 in B&S section, then I can collect some at super cheap price for backup.

then i must get the s100 cos it outperforms my m9 in iso . since its newer. now i know what cam to get. thanks krw lol.

I think folks here are a little unfair to Ken. He said that the S90 at high ISO outperforms the M9 (something that even M9 owners in this thread don't seem to dispute. All that most folks here say is"I didn't get the M9 for high ISO"). He did NOT say "therefore don't buy M9, get a S90 instead." in other words, he was praising the S90 but not putting down the M9, as far as I can tell.

The thing is we don't need to pump up ISO above 800 when using Leica M9. With f1.4(Leica lenses are well-known for the sharpest and best performance at wide open) and low shutter speed around 1/5s without shaking(due to light weight of Leica M9 body), we don't really need so high ISO for casual/hobby use. Unless you want to shoot at high ISO for job assignments, then it's another story.

Shot with Leica M9 and 50mm Summilux lens at ISO400, f1.4, 1/15s:
