Or rather Breaking Rumor :D

Mirrorless Rumors | Blog | Hot! Pentax K-01 mirrorless camera coming soon?

I believe it already, since our own guru has already mentioned it at least a month ago.

It appears to be a well built camera based on the weight. (Perhaps still Mag alloy like the K5?)

3 kit lenses ( low cost DA limiteds?? ) - interesting to see what these will be.

* Pentax new mirrorless camera will be announced by CP + in February.
* The name is K-01
* K-mount!
* Black & white body color (black keynote), white and black (white tone), black and yellow (based on black and white, yellow leather) three different colors.
* The sensor is the same spec K-5 (Click here to see that camera). And same rear LCD.
* Full HD video
* Shutter speed to 1 / 4000 p to 30 seconds
* Contrast AF, AF 81 Split
* Built-in pop-up flash
* 121mm width, 79mm height, 59mm depth
* 560g in weight with battery
* designed by the designer who designed talby from au (i.e. Japanese mobile phone sold in 2004)
* it looks more like Optio than K series; not like GXR
* comes with a new lens: DA 40mm F2.8XS
* three lens kits with DA40XS and lenses already on market
* mirrorless but whether there is an EVF or it is built in is not revealed

Well, I guess quite a few guys already knew about this. But it's still just a ... rumor at this stage ;)

rumor is one thing but if you read thru Dpreview SLR talk you see china guy name pete fang whose rumor are up to standard

Sweet! If k-mount then can use all our existing lenses too! No need to spend on 2 systems. But still rumour leh..
And I do hope the size will be pocketable too.

Hmm.. Is it the deal i have been told to wait for in apr hehe

awwwwwwwww......

Wow!!! :eek:
Hail Pentax!!

Hope it is true.. Then i can let go my sony NEX ^^

My Kx's weight about 580g and this Knock Out #1 measuring ~560 :sweat:, hopefully the performance + features should be at least in between Nex5n & Nex 7. :think:

Doesn't excite me at 560g. Coming from m4/3 camp, I like mirrorless for being smaller and lighter, camera and lens inclusive. EVF is excellent but it drains battery fast.

Why is this mirrorless better than the DSLR counterpart? If 560g does not come with EVF built in, that's even more disappointing. K-mount means the flange distance needs to be kept (correct me if I'm wrong) and camera + lens will still be bulky. As a prime lens lover, I just don't see how is it better than my K5 + DA21 + FA43.

A digital MX will be good.

should be as big as NX. which is as small as ME super...

They intended to have an entry level (The Q) and a mainstream mirrorless (this one?) but I was under the impression Ricoh halted it as they do not want to cannibalise their existing interchangeable system series but I guess the Pentax name prevailed.

Not yet. I chose the Sony because its super small and dedicated HD video record button. If the Pentax is same size as the Samsung, then it defeats the purpose. I think with such a crowded market, they need to have it look good like the GF3 and small like the Nex. Or go for simplicity like the Nikon 1 series.

One key strength for pentax is their ability to fit premium quality into tiny form factors. Mated with the DA40, it would have looked very slim too. I am sure the new lenses will meet this requirement. But on the EVF, frankly speaking, its not a deal breaker for me. Instead, I preferred without it as its not essential and adds bulk to the configuration. Instead, they can offer an add on for those who want it, and this will meet the needs of those who want and don't want the EVF.
I have never been impressed with EVF anyway. I checked out those "very good" ones from Olympus, etc and they still looked digital and artificial to me. If I wanted a view finder, it would have to be optical like my Pentax Kx (but it would not be mirrorless..haha). I know Sony has option for an optical viewfinder but that is neither aligned to the sensor nor are they small in size.

In anycase, these cameras are not meant to replace your DSLR, but to complement as a grab-and-go. It would not be smart for Pentax to come out with a product that cannibalises its core products.

I was hoping they'd come out with a new mount. If the rumors are true, it doesn't seem like a replacement for my m4/3 system :(
OTOH, perhaps this will open the door for a mirrorless FF :).

K mount? Flange distance of K-mount is 45.46mm! If the rumors are correct, then the Pentax will be the biggest MILC ever made!

Being K mount, would it mean the lens flange distance has to be same as before? The depth of 59mm seems likely which is rather thick compared to other mirrorless. Can be limiting to mount manual lenses, though, it may not be the market pentax is going after.
That said, would be interested to see what's announced on CP+ though, the mirrorless segment just gets more exciting by the day!
