Am I the only one completely unimpressed with the D4 announcements and samples?

Hi all. Despite the huge hoohah I've got a feeling that this D4 upgrade is akin to another D3 to D3s transition.

Really hope that the dark ages do not return again for us nikon users. This type of incremental upgrade is just so canon & very, very unlike Nikon... did the earthquake & tsunami combo-attack just sent us on a quick D4, D4S marketing path?

I don't like to read a judge based on paper specs but so many indicators of a potential win to canon camp this time round...

1. 10 fps vs 12 fps.

2. Canon 1DX has far more cross points & a highly customizable AF behavioural system. Nikon seems to continue to clump all the cross-points in the center. But cross-point doesn't mean a better point always.

3. How many event/wedding photographers actually use f8 resultant lens & tc combos.

4. Canon is bragging about "AWB as good as a grey card built into the camera". Most if not all 1DX samples are taken using AWB. Yet most if not all D4 samples are Joe McNally's lighting know-how & CWB. History indicates that 1D series has done AWB better by a noticeable notch compared to Dx series.

5. Canon finally admitting it's past AF flaws & implemented many upgrades to the 1DX such as zoom lens wide-tele end calibration.

Still waiting for canon to finalise the beast and compared crucial stuff like dynamic range (nikon wins last round) , flash exposure stability (canon has lost for ages, but canon yet again brags about the improvements in 1DX) & f1.4G lens AF consistency (major issue with the 24G, 35G & 85G... supposedly the gold primes).

Is it a major issue who's specs win out ? The proof of a camera is in its ability to get the best file possible. AWB, frames per second may not be every one must have feature. The AF focus point issue could be a ball breaker - let see what has improved or not. As to Canon's claims on AF , in the past they have made claims which when the body is used were found to be not so true . Chill man chill... remember - " White or Black it matters not as long as the cat can catch mice"

i think at this level, both are going to be fantastic cameras. really boils down to the person looking through the viewfinder. there's of course the possibility of having issues with AF/Metering/(insert what ever you feel like complaining about) but based on the spec sheet, if you're not able to get a shot with either one of them, chances are that switching isn't going to do you any good anyway.

I think the point of D4 is to catch up to Canon in the video department. Nikon's video has sucked in the past, and with the advent of movies and TVs both employing the 5dmk2 in their shoots(see a whole episode house + the racecar scene in iron man2), they want to catch up.

Minor tweaks tacked onto the D4 are still an improvement and without a proper side by side comparison between the D4 and 1Dx, its still hard to tell.

IMO, D3S and D4 is nearly as mere as a 550D to 600D. firstly the cost of it is totally inappropriate for that age old technology revised so many times... as if the D3S has focusing problems or metering issues, the gimmicks are not all that worth 6K US. however I do understand that it's worth it in the ISO department, since cleaniness of ISO output is what makes it better than any other. that said, is the D3S not clean enough? it's a freaking ISO beast, and I don't think it can be improved much more.

so there you have it, at the top, there is little room for improvement. the D3 or D3S as old as it seems , is far from being ancient, it's too ahead Nikon can't think of more at a reasonable cost and size.

Likely Nikon does not have you as their Dslr system engineer...

You guys are all too naive about how corporations work, and how competing corporations work when launching competing products.

Changing whole camera system because the specs of another brand's new camera are better? D700, D3, D3s, D4 can't make you a better photographer?
Whatever it is, I'll still stick to my D700. It's enough to help me capture the things I want to capture.
I'll rather spend the money on other stuff like famous photographers' workshop, investment in other equipment that could provide new possibilities on diversifying my works.

Support your views. They may spend too much time developing the 1 series cameras, forgetting about the DSL users. Now just adding some new features on the old body and become a new flagship. Complete lack of sincerity and ambition. the brand that used for 30 years, now I feel more and more disappointed.:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

you again? if you prefer Canon just jump back to Canon. who cares?

Why the big fuss? People will still buy it anyway. Just like D3S, ppl said they expected a D4 but hey ppl were still impressed with the update. Btw 1DX is suppose to be a hybrid of 1D and 1DS right so it's kinda expected that it has better specs and priced higher. Maybe D4S will impress u.

Every time a new product launch..There will be some people who like as well as some people who dont.
If it work for you..good for you. If it dont thats just too bad..
1) Wait again for the next update.
2) Switch
3) Quit once and for all. No more worries.

Of course not you are not the only person who is completely unimpressed .
However , you are a person who completely unimpressed and grumble about it

can i click a dislike ??
dude, can you be patient?
the production unit is not even on the reviewer/professional hands yet.
talk about 24f1.4, canon(24f1.4mk2) one gimme more problem than my current 24f1.4G ...i just switched camp few months ago.

It's so sad ppl are more concern with their camera brand than taking photograph, dun forget, it's the user!!! Not the equipment!!!
