Canon L Lens international warranty

Hi all,

I've been thinking of upgrading to a 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM II lens.

My major concern is of the warranty, because I intend to either get it from Hong Kong or the USA.

I have tried searching the web for any information on this and the information tends to conflict.

Does anyone here actually know what has international warranty and what does not?

Another issue is that it seems that Canon AU does not accept international warranty. Is that true as well?

Canon lens used to have international warranty, but not anymore.

Nope. Canon Singapore don't support international warranty for both lenses and body. So if you buy from oversea, it is consider as a grey set.

it's like you're forfeiting the warranty for a slightly lower price. up to you to decide if it's worth it.

You know... I cannot find any information in Canon website for warranty to speedlites. I am not sure if there is a warranty for the speedlites... I know that Canon don't provide warranty for their battery grip though.

Anyway, why must you die die buy something from overseas when you can get them from Singapore, the street price are actually not that expensive and you can always go for third party product.

For a $3k+ lens, saving is more than $500+ if purchase oversea. $500 is likely more than enough to cover one servicing, and lens doesn't fail that easily.

Sg is longer promoted as a shopping paradise (we never hear this anymore) as prices here is now among the highest. In fact for canon products, toursits from China and India can claim warranty services at their respectively country for product bought in sg. We can't do it the other way around.

Well... if it was lenses that are around S$500 saving for a 3k+ lens, it is definitely a good buy... But for items like speedlight, battery grips and stuff like that... I would say, get from Singapore.

(PS. If you are not overseas to carry the lens back, and instead rely on shipping, then don't forget to calculate the GST and stuff like that, also note that since you have not test the lens - sharpness wise, calibration, etc, there is also chances that things might go awry and so it will add to your headaches.)

I bought my 580exII from hongkong mid this year and it still came with the international warranty, so i was concerned of its validity in singapore.

As for the 70-200mm f2.8L USM II lens, it is going for only US$2069 which is roughly S$2695. In comparison with the price guide here, which is S$3450, i would be saving at least $700. That is one of the reasons why I am more inclined to purchase good overseas than in here.

The price I saw was on Amazon and I also have a friend in the states who can do the purchase for me as well.

You should also check prices in indonesia. I heard canon stuff in indonesia is a lot cheaper.

Actually, I just got my canon 270 ex2 from Hong Kong a week ago. And it comes with the green warranty card that is for international warranty.

DO BUY overseas if you can and save. The 15 months warranty period doesn't really mean anything..it be over sooner than u thought. But do bring ur camera to test with the lens you are buying and that all is proper..and for the rest of the 15 months...just make sure you don't damage the lens. Canon Singapore however still SUPPORT and services or damage repair..just that you have to pay for it.
