Is buying brand new lenses from shops that sell their lens very cheap risky?

Hi there! I am interested to get the Nikkor 50mm f1.8 after checking it out and i found it an economical lens to take portraits. I recently checked out The Camera Workshop and they quoted me $330+ for a brand new lens but i didnt get it then. Today, i went to Far East Plaza and casually asked a few camera shops for quotes and they gave me quotes starting from $179+ !!! Its way cheaper than $330++ (or the $29x +) that i heard the lens cost. Is it risky or is there a difference between the lenses which explains the difference in price?

And, what is the difference between the f1.8 g and f1.8 d?? the d seems to be cheaper.

You don't have to create a new thread for this when it is still being discussed in your original thread.

As mentioned in your original thread, $179 for that lens is too good to be true. The salesmen have something up their sleeves to cheat you, making you pay more in the end. Stick to the reputable shops.

Comparison of the D and the G versions:

If not I would had recommended, these- in ascending price;; (af 50mm f/1.8d, af 35mm f/2d, af 50mm f/1.4d, afs 35mm f/1.8g dx, afs 50mm f/1.8.)

Personally, I would avoid such shop who quote low on the lens.

I think you've been quoted the price for AFD 50mm f1.8 rather. Do double check.
