I'm not able to do some website functions that I used to be able to before I updated my Mac OS 10.6.8 and browsers.
For example, I am not able to load messages on eBay, or use the drop-down functions on items.
And these javascript problems are on all my browsers!
I know this is not an IT forum but I know there are many people here who are very good in IT.
I need to get this solved quite urgently.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Strange.. Rarely encounter such problems with Javascript..
Maybe try updating your Java?

Java != JavaScript

As all IT support knows, its hard to troubleshoot without seeing the problem 1st hand

Java is updated and when I did tests, it appears to be working.
But Javascript is not.

All browsers are updated.
OS is updated.
Cache is cleared.
Everything is cleaned with CleanMyMac.
Anti-virus scan is done with Sophos.
Browsers are restarted after all this.

Java not equals Javascript.
I can provide information and run tests.

Please ensure that you are not running the "no plugins/add-on" (or equivalent) version of the browser. Please also ensure that there is no 3rd party add-on that is disabling the javascript. Firefox's noscript is one such 3rd party addon that disable javascripts.

No, I am not running that version and I have checked that I have Java enabled.
I do not have any third party add-ons.

Try install firebug in firefox. It can provide you Javascript debugging info.
Actually.. chrome has one too, but I never use it

btw, are you referring to a specific website or all websites? If it's specific to the website, it might be the website's problem and not your computer issue

I'm not 100% sure if its all websites as this is quite a recent problem.
I've just noticed the most problems with eBay website, but I do recall a few other websites reacting a bit different from before too.

I did a search and I found a thread on eBay with a few people stating that they had these problems too.
Someone tried to get eBay to help them but apparently, eBay said they can't do anything about it.
I guess they are already making too much money to bother about people using Mac, huh?!?

Problem could be in the Mac side of the house.

My UOB access doesn't work, I get a "Applet did not load properly" message. Didn't get around to figure the problem. OCBC is ok. Have not tried other sites.

You're not the only one…
Not every website works with a Mac…doesn't work for me either…used to work but not after all the updates I did…
But at least i still have my windows virtual machine running so it's a little hassle but at least i still have a fallback if and when website don't work on a Mac…UOB is not the only one…Safra or the NS portal also sometimes doesn't work.

Hi,

May I suggest trying to temporarily disable your antivirus and/or firewall? Some antivirus, for example AVG, is known to "intercept" browser data transmission and "check" for malicious code first before passing it to the browser. It's a part of their browse protection. Some JavaScript code might result in false positives, though.

I don't say that this will solve the problem, but let's just see.

I doubt TS use any AV. He runs MacOS :)

You're right. Just called UOB, they confirmed that its because of OSX Lion.

My UOB online banking still works as usual.
But once recently, I also got the "Applet did not load properly" message.
I just reloaded the webpage and it worked fine and everything in the system worked too.

And these updates are supposed to make things better. Frequently, they just mess up what was once working.
Why don't they just stop dishing out these dumb updates that are a waste of time and resources.
Nobody's impressed by them. I've had a few softwares/apps that after updating, I hate them!
Skype is one... nonsense UI now.

I had this problem even before i installed antivirus.
Then later I installed antivirus (not because of the problem), and it made no difference.

Then it's a good time to start. MacOS is not virus proof, and it's an easy hacker target.

Both of you, please scroll to the top, then scroll a little down to find my second post.
I had mentioned that I had done an antivirus scan!!!

Whops! Sorry didn't read the first msg properly :bsmilie:

And they didn't read the second.
Lots of people read really selectively... how they select is something I can never understand. :S

That explains why mine works and yours don't. I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Seems like lots of things do not work with Lion.
Too advanced that other systems cannot catch up?

By the way, Apple has almost finished using up all the big cat names for their OS.
What will they name their next OS?
Maybe they will do a reverse, this time naming the cats their female names - Lioness, Snow Leopardess (actually no such name so I just made it up), Tigress, etc. lol!

The biggest disaster that can happen is if Sanrio buys over Apple, then they will name the OS Hello Kitty!

Ok Sorry... I didn't sleep and so I'm a lil cranky and crazy and lame... :p
