That's why we have a priceguides section that lists the recommended shops. Please LOOK around the forum first, or SEARCH and you will not need to spam with a thread like this.

Thanks..

I always buy from Alan Photo (SLS). But there are bad reviews about that shop from people too.
Just sharing a small piece of info.

tk foto in funan not good service if you noob. they will say go research yourself. stupid -_- , dont go there if you want to learn more :p but their price quite ok

Well... I always go TK foto (ok service, but some staffs are quite impatient and black faced), Cathay Photo (really good service there, but not really cheap), John 3:16 (absolutely loved the service in there, very brotherhood kind of thing, but prices also not very low). Sometime I go Orient Photo too... pretty arlight prices.

I think most shops are not very catering to noobs with lot of questions, especially if there are other ready customers to serve. I would suggest you read up on what you are considering to get, go to the service center/show room and get your questions answered before heading to the shop. Some shops may sell you what you don't need if they smell the opportunity to make more money.

I would suggest to do some reading and ask questions in forums like this one. You may or not get the right answers but there are many out there willing to help as well.
Going shops to ask questions open up opportunities for them to sell you something you may not need at your level. Or even cone you since you are a newbie.

TKfoto you must know who to ask, normally those newer guys/younger ones are friendly. or look for that shorter old man or 1 who is abit fat. those few are friendly. others are impatient..

Always get my stuff from John 3:16 at Funan. Good service.

I bought most of my costly(>$200) stuff from cathay photo, becasue reliable and friendly... before goto cathay get the e-quote, it is cheaper. Then TK photo.

i have tried in cathay at peninsula branch, one uncle there is very accommodating.. i only bought a lens cap and just inquired about speedlights and camera pouch.. the store was jam packed yet he never leave me to accommodate other guest.. artworkfoto near bugis is accommodating also.. though only a few people there since there shop is small.. nice talking with the gentlemen there.. you will not feel inferior even if you're a newbie..

Agreed. Been to artworkfoto a few times already.
Friendly guy there. :)

AMK MS Colour - Main store, not the amk hub one.

I usually get an e-quote from cathay first then go down.

IMO, Cathay never give me a competitive pricing before... maybe for tokina lens since they are the main dealer for this brand.

Main purpose and scope of shops is .. selling. Hence, they will do everything (including massive amounts of talks up to intentional disinformation) to make you buying for the highest possible price. Plenty of tactics to make you fork our more cash, starting from bold quoting, cheaper model being out of stock so they offer the more expensive one, 'promotions that require you to buy other (unnecessary) things and so on. Shops are not there for free education or consultation. Some do it to a certain extend, but for a newbie like you it's impossible to tell rubbish from good advice. So do your homework and search through the Consumer's Corner here. Plenty of stories about people being cheated in one way or the other. As long as you don't know what you need best not to enter any camera shop - unless you go with an experienced person you can trust.

Strongly agree. Some shops realli carrot those kan chiong and unprepared newbies..

I can suggest Edison Electronics at Sim Lim. Or SLRR at funan or TK FOTO at funan or Alan Photo at funan.
