What is your favorite method to custom white balance on your body for outdoor shots ?

Haha can't agree more. saves a lot on the worrying part. TS, if u shoot on jpeg in a sunny day outdoor, i don't tink auto will turn out bad. its only screws up in low light in my experience.

I mean outdoor like inside a mall, along orchard road at night, etc not in studio environment.
I shot jpeg because I am lazy to post-process, and not a pro ....

Currently, i select "flash wb" as i shot with fill flash even in day light.

Will a cheap wb Len cap good enough ?

if i remember correctly, i think i was told during the free Canon DSLR training that flash WB is essentially the same as daylight--the color temperature of the flash is about the same as daylight.

i usually set WB based on what looks right in the live-view. turns out i tend to use auto WB outdoors at night, and during the day, i usually set the WB based on whether it is sunny or cloudy. in a mall, i would use live-view to choose what suits me best--however, if none are suitable, then RAW.

Not sure about Canon, but for Nikon Flash WB is different from Daylight.

during sunset/sunrise, set to daylight
during indoors, btween 3200 - 4200K depending on light.

Could be higher or lower than that too.

Halogen lamps are around 2500K and 'daylight' fluorescent tubes are >6000K

Yes, I intend to use custom wb instead of me enter or guess the ambient color temperature.
grey card is out for me as my subject will not hold it for me. I.e my son
So, there is different brand of Len caps that allow camera sensor to set it's
Custom wb. They range from $10 to $200.
Don't know which to buy ...

As for "flash wb", my understanding is that our flash unit (oem) will send a signal to communicate it's color temperature to the body so that it will use this information to compute the final white balance.
I read this somewhere ... I think the user manual of the canon flash unit say that.

day light is roughtly 5500-5600K is it? flash depends on brand is 5600k...
