i was there a week ago! cooling weather the first couple of days and end up warm the last few days. yes i agree. rarely see such clear blue sky in hongkong!

yes! i nearly gave up going to victoria harbour as the crowd is really too immense. but i thought better and knew that i couldn't miss this chance. lucky me i guess!

everything was shot with 10-22. only no.2 and no.9 are shot with 24-70. yup, those at vicoria harbour are definitely with tripod. i brought mine as i know i will need to use it at victoria harbour and also at madame tussauds as no one could help take photo for me and my gf. i'm using the fotopro carbon fibre c5i. light and good.

you should bring yours if you are really looking for photo opportunities. i lugged my equipment for 5 days around and got a very bad sore shoulder. cos i walked and shopped non stop!

Hi jason, im going HK in december, I'm using a D700 with a 28-75. Should i pack a wide angle or a 85 ? Do you think packing a fisheye would be useful? Would be going Disneyland. Really excited to chiong H&M and Uniqlo and all the awesome camera shops too. Hehehe.

Edit, the widest i have is a 24/2.8 on a fullframe. Will that be wide enough?

hi liionel! just a headsup. how many days will you be going? i shopped at mongkok and mongkok only, it took me 4 whole days. hahaha. shoes, clothes are so cheap. but it's winter season now so most shops are all jackets, sweaters, and pullovers. very hard to find tshirts there. even H&M and Uniqlo has their shops packed full of winter clothing. that's the down part.

back to camera topic. well, i shot mainly with my 10-22 as what i wanna capture was the architecture, landscape and crowd photos. if you have more time on your hands, you can definitely use the 28-75 for protraits. your 85 will be very tight as you know, Hong Kong is a jam packed city packed full of people. Fisheye would be good in areas like Central, Causeway Bay in Hong Kong island as there are so many skyscrapers you can shoot.

85 will be a 'can-do-without' but a wide angle is a MUST!

Ah okay, not sure if 24 will be wide enough, or if i should rent a 20! Guess I agree with you on the part about the 85mm being more of an optional lens. I'll be going from 23-28. So thats about 6 days? Which hotel did you stay at? Bought any camera gear?

I stayed at cosmo mongkok. My very first photo in this thread. Its a new, cosy but small hotel. I didnt buy any lens there, just bought some accessories and a domke j2. Much cheaper in hk! I visited both tin cheung and wing shing. Wing shing is huge, but i had a very good time chatting with the salesgirl at tin cheung. Very very helpful folks there. Wing shing, on the other hand, is more packed and sometimes you get neglected. Hahaha.

yup you won't regret bringing. but try to plan 1 night just for photo taking as there are too many distractions(shopping+food) all over the place!
