sharp and brilliant colors depends on how the photographer uses the camera.
with the budget you have, its either an old high end model or a new entry level model. if it was my money, needless to ask which option i would go for.
For your tight budget, and your requirements, I sincerely feel you are in the WRONG FORUM.
Look at most of the photographers here are DSLR users. Their "SHARP" and their "BRILLIANT COLOURS" are most likely fulfill by the large sensors in their camera body which set you back for at least approximately 1K. If you ask which camera under $200 from the staffs in the Best and Buy, they will recommend you a $199 dollars camera that can snap a photo and call it SHARP and BRILLANT COLOURS.
Now do you have an idea already ? For $200 dollars budget you are not in the league for DSLR to ask for SHARP and BRILLIANT COLOURS. At least not in this era yet, sad to say. I probably will sell you my set for $200 when Nikon D0.1 is out. :bsmilie:
Back to serious, for $200, put away the SHARP and BRILLANT COLOURS and go with an nice looking P&S out there. Under bright sunlight conditions, with any at most 10MP camera, it will be sharp and the colours will be brilliant, I am serious about this statement. Provided you focus properly of course.

I believe that the TS is looking for a compact and not a DSLR, hence the title. Also, why is this the wrong forum? Being a photography forum, I find that this is the perfect place to ask this question and anyone who knows will help. Doesn't mean that you need a D3s to post in this forum you know?

I have no intention to mock at him, but perhaps thats how you decide to perceive it. Have I stated my ground right to the point ? If you wanna dwell further, be my guest ok ?
Just to set expectation right, with $200 as the budget, it is no where SHARP and BRILLIANT COLOURS that I am strictly pointing out. You may choose to believe or not, I'm just speaking a fact. If a $200 budget can produce what is consider SHARP and BRILLANT COLOURS, then most likely those, including me, spending thousands of dollars are pursuing on the wrong course.
I'm just requesting TS to set the right expectation for the right product. Does that answer your question, or you need more explanation ? I can further explain if it doesn't dwell into you. That's why I say don't read literally into the meaning. Too sensitive...

TS is asking for an opinion on which would give the best IQ for a budget of $200.
and you're talking about DSLRs (and that's what i'm reading from your first post) and the working points there too.
there's nothing wrong with asking advice on buying a compact. hey, TS might be looking for a travel companion not a serious studio workhorse like the D3s you've gotten yourself.
so bugger off, if you're just out to mock someone (which IS the tone of all your posts). so what if you've got a D3s?

You can try Canon Powershot series, the lower end ones should be able to meet your budget.
Sharpness will be good under good light - if you want good low light performance I guess you'd have to up your budget to get a compact camera with slightly larger sensor ($500-700 thereabouts), and if you want excellent low light performance you can't avoid avoiding compacts..

I mean, within 2 minutes of basic clicking on the internet I already can see the Sony S series ($150) or the W510 ($180) or W530 ($199).

I think any Nikon / Canon / Panasonic / etc low end camera will meet your needs. I have used an old low-end Panasonic LZ10 and it seems to be ok. See this recent set of photos:

Yeah I got the this camera many moons ago at Gain City brand new at sale price of $180. It was so good I bought 2 & gave one to a friend who just got into photography. To me it was a damn good deal & good camera - pictures were sharp & with nice colors, same for the videos.

Nothing wrong with posing such a question for someone who is new & not as knowledgable or skillful in this photography thing. See some I-know-it-all, go-only-for-the-best & dont-ask-stupid-questions characters here that is such a put off. Of course TS can go to a camera shop & do some googling himself but I think he is trying to get some help from the experienced, the gurus, the experts, the professionals here. Is this forum not for compact users??? because I am a compact user myself. A pity for the forum imo.
