Hi,

I need some advice on choosing 1 of the mentioned cameras below
1) s95
2) LX 5
3) p7000

I'm was originally very keen in getting the s95 but recently stumbled upon the
Other 2 cameras.

I would prefer a camera that's good in taking night shots.
Must be able to have manual focus
Changeable shutter speed.

All of Which these cameras have.
Wondering in terms of value for money is the extra cost worth paying or the
P7000 or LX 5?

And to confuse you further, Look at the Olympus XZ-1, which is the hottest PnS cam out there now, as well as the Canon G12.

You have to go down and try the cameras and decide which one works better for you.

OH man.... the Canon G12 is quite expensive right?
means you'll rather recommend the Olympus XZ-1 instead of the S95?

just to benefit those that are facing the same problem as me.

heres a comparison between the G12 and the S95
go youtube and search DigitalRevCom's channel.

he has some great comparison's for the S95.

Thanks for all your input but ive decided on the S95 as its compact, HD video, Manual Focus,
Great night shoots.

Even though it doesnt match all the specs of the G12, but i think if im buying a compact camera, it must at least fit in my pocket:)

so yeah.

Hope this helps

In case you regret, do take a look at the Olympus XZ-1. It is the camera I would buy out of all you listed, if I am looking for a PnS now.

isnt the Olympus XZ-1 alittle too big?

Actually, I tried putting the G12 into my "loose" jeans...it kinda fits in..if you have nothing in that pocket (can also sit down, no problems). Thou, S95 will be easily more pocketable..

It is smaller than the G12 or P7000 actually. Of course the S95 is smaller. But the XZ1 offers F1.8 at wide, and F2.5 at tele 110mm. Which will give you the ability to do subject isolation much better than S95. And it will also allow you shoot low light much much better.

Take a look at sample pics:

Cnet.com and many websites already ranked Canon S95 is the best compact digital camera already. Just choose one that your pocket allows. There will always be something, bigger, better, faster, etc....never ends. Even a simple ixus 115hs is already damn good.

Leica d lux5 or m9 also very good.

S95 and P7000 have new succesor models already...S100 and P7100.

How is sumsum PL170... Dual screen

Sorry its Samsung

Just buy a IXUS 220HS or 115HS. Good enough already, can save a few hundred and spend it on a few gals, better still.

Pentax Q??

Actually, why not just look at a EPL1, GF3 or even a 2nd hand GF1.
Most of the pns options you listed are not that pocket-able anyway. (LX5; G12; P7000)
Generally, they need largish pockets.
The m4/3 options have better low light performance than the options above.
Options for good fast lenses like a 20/1.7 too.
