Meireles hits out at Liverpool

Raul Meireles has accused Liverpool of a broken promise and claimed he was forced to submit a transfer request once they decided to sell him.

roti prata curry sauce!

Meireles completed a reported £12million move to Stamford Bridge in the final minutes of transfer deadline day almost two weeks ago, a switch that angered many Reds supporters.

The 28-year-old revealed upon signing for Chelsea that he had never wanted to leave Anfield and that he would eventually explain why he had done so.

He attempted to set the record straight this afternoon after being officially unveiled as a Blues player, appearing to give credence to rumours he was promised a 100% pay rise at Liverpool if he impressed during what was his debut season.

"All I have to say is that I had one promise at Liverpool which wasn't fulfilled," said the midfielder, who certainly lived up to his side of the bargain after joining the Reds from Porto.

"It's not the only thing to blame. But that's why the Liverpool fans are unsure why I left."

He added: "Liverpool asked me to hand in a transfer request, so that's normal."

Meireles admitted he was stunned to discover he had been made available for transfer.

"I was aware that Liverpool wanted to sell me in the summer, which was a bit surprising to me," said Meireles, who was reluctant to discuss his relationship with Reds boss Kenny Dalglish.

"There's no point touching this subject any more.

"I was a bit surprised, but now I'm just concentrating on my present and future, and that's with Chelsea."

Indeed, Meireles was delighted to have ended up at Stamford Bridge.

"When Chelsea showed interest, it was like a golden opportunity," he said.

"I'm here now, it's a new adventure, and I want to do well here."

Meireles' move reunited him with Andre Villas-Boas, who he worked under during pre-season a year ago before joining Liverpool.

He said: "I worked under Andre for one month at Porto, so I felt that there's the same mentality here as there was at Porto - the desire to win competitions and trophies. With Andre, we can do that.

"In one month, it was enough to see how he works and his desire to win things. So it wasn't hard to make the decision to come to Chelsea."

Meireles made an instant impact on his Chelsea debut on Saturday, a brilliant through ball setting up Daniel Sturridge's outrageous backheeled goal at Sunderland.

Portugal international Meireles was coy on whether his year in England had made him better prepared for the rigours of a Premier League title challenge.

"I had one year to adapt to the Premier League, but it's two different clubs and different styles," said Meireles, who was hoping to make his Champions League bow for Chelsea in Tuesday night's Group E opener against Bayer Leverkusen.

"We chase different competitions, and I just hope I can achieve things here at Chelsea."

Blues quiz Torres over interview

Fernando Torres is being quizzed by Chelsea over an interview in which he appeared to criticise his own team-mates.

curry rice!

Torres spoke to the official website of Spain's Primera Liga last week, with an English translation later appearing on the striker's personal website.

Torres, who has endured a miserable run in front of goal since his £50million move from Liverpool, was quoted as branding Chelsea's "older" players as "very slow", and hailing new team-mate Juan Mata as a necessary signing.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas sought an explanation from Torres, who claimed his words were not translated accurately on his own website.

On Monday, Chelsea were seeking to obtain a copy of the interview in its original Spanish and Villas-Boas revealed he would warn Torres not to speak so candidly about the club in future if the translation did stand up.

He said: "We are going in-depth to regain the tape of that interview.

"We'll see if things play exactly as they are in that interview."

The interview was authorised by Chelsea, otherwise Torres would have been facing a fine.

Asked what action would be taken if the translation proved accurate, the Blues boss said: "We'd just talk. Just talk. To share opinion.

"If it was unauthorised, I'd fine him. Of course."

He added: "Anyhow, it's one player's perspective.

"I don't think it's a perspective that the manager shares. I don't have to share my players' ideas sometimes.

"I think we have competence, apart from the 'age problem', which for me is not a problem.

"Maybe we just have to speak about that situation and he has to see our view as well."

Torres' travails show no sign of abating, the 27-year-old losing his place in the side for Saturday's Premier League win at Sunderland, having also failed even to make the bench for Spain's European Championship qualifier against Liechtenstein.

Villas-Boas did not offer Torres an explanation, having admitted 48 hours earlier that he would not hesitate to drop the striker if it benefited the team.

"I just made the changes," said Villas-Boas today as he pondered whether to recall Torres for Tuesday's Champions League opener against Bayer Leverkusen.

"I think any player who's not part of the squad or the selected players is not happy.

"I'm glad because maybe you can stimulate them to go one step further, or motivate them a bit more."

chelsea players very slow and "age problem", hahahahahahhaa

joined chel$ki at the prime of his career, bought by romantic abba-movie and then his career stalled and went downhill. hehehe

joined chel$ki at the prime of his career after super seasons with legendary football club, LIVERPOOL F.C., rumoured to be signed by romantic abbamovie for a stunning 50mil GBP deal which had LFC laughing all the way to the bank and the fans, rejoicing as they got rid of an unhappy, selfish and greedy player.

career stalled, goals dried up and websites were made, paying 'tribute' to his non-scoring playtime in chel$ki. call-up to the national team but not in first team, not even in the subs' bench in recent international.

laughable.
