Hi bros,

I'm considering the M-Hexanon 35/F2 but heard mixed reviews about it. Just want to know if anyone has used this lens with a Leica M9. Care to share your positive and negative experiences?

Thanks all! :)

if can afford m9 , why not get the asph cron ???

all the leica lens i feel are nice , even the vintage ones are good.

can consider the canon 35mm f2 ltm . recently thought of selling but changed my mind after using it.

no sharpening added for this pic

When a good lens such as M-Hexanon 35/2 can do the job why spend 2.5x amount of $$ on cron? I have tried a few pieces on my M9 and got pretty mixed results too. 1 back focuses but the other spot on. I reckon you should try it on when you get the chance rather than take the risk on evil bay. Just my 2 cents. Good luck bro!

Hexanon 35mm F2 is basically same as 35 cron F2 'bokeh king'.

if i'm not wrong, there are 3 versions of the hexanon 35f/2, i) chrome ltm; ii) the black paint UC ltm; and iii) m-mount.

the UC is the one ppl usually associate with the v4, and the chrome is the predecessor essentially the same formula, minus the ultra coating, a little less compact, and the different body finish. the m-mount is a totally different animal, much larger is size, displaying quite a different signature... if you can call it that.

Thanks bros!

I have two lenses now: A Leica Summarit 35mm/f2.5 and a Hexanon 50mm/F2.

I just prefer the way the 50mm Hexanon handles and renders on the M9. Granted, the focus distance limit is about 1meters but the 50mm Hexanon gives an extremely smooth and dreamy look. Not too soft but not super clinical either.

The Summarit is great in good light. But I'm looking for that extra stop as I will be shooting at night when I go overseas in September. So naturally, I thought of the Hexanon 35mm/F2. I'm not too hot about the UC Hexanon--i hear it handles flares better but isn't as well-built as the M-Hexanons.

Bro Bolim: Thanks for your advise. If anyone is interested in trading a mint M-Hexanon with my mint 35mm Summarit, leave me a private message. But I'd like to test the lens first.

I'm aiming the chrome LTM one!!!!

rare stuff that has the same lens formula as 35mm F1.8 nikkor ltm

The UC hex is probably as well built as any Leica or Hex lenses. Not sure where u heard that from. Anyway, u can't go wrong with any Hexanon lenses. Another option is the Zeiss 35 f2.0 or f2.8.

I highly recommend both Zeiss F2.0 and Zeiss F2.8

The F2.8 is more compact than F2.0, at the cost of 1 stop.

Hi bros,

I did consider the Zeiss 35/F2. But I read it could be more trouble to use than the Hexanon because of:

1. Finder blockage

http://www.kenrockwell.com/zeiss/zm/35mm-f2.htm

2. A lot of vignetting when shooting wide open

http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2010/02/25/the-zeiss-zm-35-biogon-f2-lens-review-on-the-leica-m9/

Eh do note ken rockwell is er.....not everything he says u take too seriously.

Zeiss f2 is such a good lens it is usually preferred to leica F2 ASPH. There is a poll in rff forum where it polled more popular than leica.

Vignetting? Not on mine.

Finder blockage? Not on mine. I do not use a hood. No need hood the zeiss F2 is practically flareproof

Very popular choice for new buy

Thanks bro artspraken. I think the easiest way is to just bring my M9 to the shop and do a few test shots with the Zeiss 35/F2. BTW, you use the Zeiss on the M9?

Very nice sharkymachine. Any test shots using the UC on the Leica M9P?

So far, it seems not much information about the M-Hexanon 35mm on the M9. The most interesting images I found of this lens in action was the at DPreview forum. The guy shot with an M8.2. Nice rendering:

M9 LCD only got 260k pixel, you cannot see what it can do properly

Aiyah i tell u lar, the choice is easy for budget 35mm wan:

. If you want compact small 35mm lens, then go hexanon, or leica 6 element, or zeiss f2.8, or CV got one compact 35mm also

. If you dont need compact 35mm, then get zeiss f2, can get new and no need worry about resale risks. It approx 1.3k

If you want even cheaper, look at LTM lens and use adaptor

Thomas, thought you sold your chrome hex. Nice pair. I love the size on the UC. Very compact. Only wish it's .7m focusing.

Glad you like my pictures, that guy is me.

I have compared recently four lenses: M-Hexanon 35/2, Summicron 35/2, M-Hexanon 50/2, Jupiter-3 50/1.5, you can see samples here: rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109000

Here are pictures from a new shoot, I used M-Hexanon 35mm f2 on par with Jupiter-3 50mm f1.5.

Awesome pictures bro! I'm getting poisoned by the colors! Now really tempted to get the M-Hexanon 35mm. Too bad it's a very difficult lens to find.
