D2H Nikon

Hi everyone,

I'm really new to these hobby and hope to start somewhere. I am interested in getting my very first DSLR.
Looked around the market, ebay and chanced upon Nikon D2H which is affordable for me. Did some homework and found out that it is actually a professional quality camera in it's era. 2004? Around there~.

I would like to know if it's worth getting. It will be less than 200SGD.

I'm starting out, means most of the pictures won't be poster size =) just general online picture size you see in facebook.

With it's 4.1MP, does it affect the quality of the shot even even with such a small viewing size?

Please, voice our your opinion and help get someone interested in SLR! =)

Its a v fast camera(really fast). but i wont recommend it if you re starting out. the white balance sensor and noise control aren't too good and the files require a good amount of post processing to reach their full potential. the sensor isnt the best at dynamic range either so you must be careful with that. the screen is not very useful, its neither accurate with colours nor sharp. at $200 theres not much to loose, but i would recommend a D40X instead. the 4.1 MP is not an issue. you should be able to print up the A3 with careful composition.

here're some shots for you re consideration:

one more thing to note. D2Hs are typically used as sports/action cameras so be careful with the shutter count. the shutter count of my unit was 182K when i got it. if you shop on Ebay, the prices hover around 300-400 USD for a complete boxed set. and i agree that $200 sing is really low. just becareful

$200? way too good to be true.... :think:

within its limits, it is still a pretty darn good camera. i am using it as a backup camera. on CS now, it should be going for abt $600-$700 dollars.

May I know what body will be considered a good starter which will last me for the next 4 years or so? low cost with all the basic functions included.. I don't wanna pay for professional grade body and use 5 functions out of it's 100+ functions. hope you all understand! =)

The most important question is, what is your budget? Remember to factor in other things that you might need such as tripod, dry cabinet etc etc.

Well maybe by end of 1 year you would be thinking of upgrading further. If using nikon, D7000 is a good camera, you have your 4 years to learn how to master it anyway.

Wow, $300 for body with lens is rather tough. I guess you can get a 2nd hand D40 with kit lens at around $350.

True. Unless you are good at bargaining. Then might be able to fit your budget. Like I bargain till I get 18-55mm for $105.

Yes agree, maybe you can stretch it to around $550 for a D3000 kit? Of course a higher budget would be better. Also, must it be Nikon?

Given the recent trends of packing more and more funky features into the entry level bodies I doubts you can avoid this. Especially the Scene Modes in the entry level bodies are packed with all sorts of things.. but soon many people stay in the 4 main modes P, A, S M (Canon: P, Av, Tv, M). Do not consider unused functions as a loss. Rather like 'freebies'. Use when needed, no loss neglecting them.
Regarding your body: look for something that is not older than 2 years (although that would mean you must increases your budget a bit). These cameras are of decent technology level that can still serve you well for the next years (provided you don't get infected by upgrade madness or BBB virus). For Nikon do pay attention to the topic 'in body focus motor'. Read up and decide whether it's relevant to you.

There you go. Even if you are saying "realli" and "mi" it makes no sense to replace the "y" and "e" with an "i" since it's not like you're saving any character count.

Oh, were you not referring to your grammar? Well in that case, a D50 is a good start, but you really need to think hard if you want to purchase a very old, out-of-warranty camera.
