Nikon: Made in Malaysia

don't worry...if QC system is implemented as per Jap standard, there shdn't be a problem...

The world now is very different from the past. Big brand have located their manufacturing plants in cheaper countries to reduce
costs. But that doesn't necessary means QC needs to suffer.

In fact I think QC will be stepped up instead. Like for
example, most people will think that food hygine and food quailty checks are stringnent in singapore, so people tend to not be on their guards and take it for granted. If the product is from other 3rd world countries, people tend to be more caution and will up their guard.

I have seem some branded electronics that is made in china but is more expensive there than in Singapore

So nowadays it makes no difference whether where a branded product is made. Of coz if it's Not a branded product, then it's hard to say

I think 'Coolness' is not a criteria found in the list when it comes to selecting a location for factories. But if you think it's cool to work for Nikon you can go to Malaysia and apply :) .. You might notice another reason why Malaysia, and not Singapore :)

Singapore everyone high class already. Work in office work in aircon rooms. No locals wants to do factory, even if have need go training. Why you see alot of FW in constructions? Simple answer.

hmm, if the new FX bodies are made in malaysia, which one of them would supposed to be the D3 replacement (D4, flagship model)
then I suppose no bodies will be made in Japan anymore? since even the top model is not made in Japan anymore.

Then I suppose it would be cheaper? Since the shipping costs is gonna be less.

Plus will probably be named "Satu D" or "D Boleh".

I am changing to Canon.

I don't think Nikon will produce camera body in malaysia, afterall they have a factory in thailand. What the subcontractor in malaysia will produce are lens mounting parts and some camera parts which are to be supplied to thailand's plant. Maybe later Nikon can consider camera body and lens assemblies in malaysia, since malaysia already have camera & optical glass manufacturing experience.

When one dog barks the rest follow. Sounds familiar?

Agree. Don't think JIS will certify Malaysia Bohel so soon.

this is nothing to do with equipment discussion on Nikon, 100% kopitiam material, thread move to kopitiam.

btw, be careful on discussion about certain topics, don't got too far toward politic... later kena axed, don't come and KPKB.
