your max weight now is less than 5kg, but are you sure about this max weight not increasing in future? if you get a better one i.e. k20x you won't have the need to upgrade when your gears change around.

what are you planning to mount on your tripod?

some of the seniors here recommended that i should get a tripod that goes to at least my eye level when the centre column is not fully extended.. especially if you're shooting things like landscape. the T1004x or 1005x will be too short for you..? or not?

have you gone to the sirui website? i think the graph there is actually quite useful as a gauge..

or else a simple search for tripod recommendation will show the following thread:

if you are 175cm, do you think the tripod will be to your eye level? have a look at the table in the link given, there's not much differences between the two.

you can also go down to tk to try out the tripods to see if they are suitable for you. the people there don't mind people molesting their display sets. ;)

T1005x is 5 section. T1004x is 4 section. 4 section is definitely more stable than 5 section.

T1005x folds 4cm shorter, but thinnest leg is thinner, so less stable.
T1004x's thinnest leg section is 16mm, which is quite thick for a travel tripod. Highly recommend.

Both tripod weighs the same.

I recommend the T1004x. I am selling mine in BnS, coz I upgraded. ;P

To what bro? :p

The T series is more preferred than the R series becos of it's low angle capability. You might be surprise how low people goes to, to shoot landscape.
@Bonyra: have you tried shooting at very low height and angle? It gives a brand new perspective. Worth a try :)

They have newer ballheads too the K10 and K20. I wanted to used them on my tripod but decided against it. I preferred the older G10 and G20 but at that time there was no stock

I also suggest skipping the G series and go straight for the K series for ballhead. Lesser knob for lesser accidental mistwist.

hi uncle cow, yeah.. i'm using a manfrotto 190xprob, so i go as low as low can be without touching the floor. (though there are of course other tripods that can go lower, but)

the thing i was trying to highlight is that.... tripods maybe able to go low, but the max height is fixed. if it stops at 1400cm, shooting at 1700 is not possible unless you have something to prop it up against etc. :)

thanks for the tips! :D

I should give low angles a try myself. Gives my tripod another use besides long exposures.

This Quote sounds very expensive !

But it kinda makes sense, I only stopped upgrading after my 3rd tripod. Wished I had bought it earlier and save myself some money and time in the BnS

TS, if you are 175cm tall, your eye level should be about... 165cm?
Deduct:
- height from viewfinder to base of camera
- height of tripod head
and you get the (required) height of the tripod when legs are fully deployed.
If you are willing to bend a bit to look through the viewfinder, then the tripod can be a little bit shorter :)

I prefer not to get 5-section tripods unless I really need the tripod to be very short when folded.
This is your personal preference.

bro, thanks for the sound advice.
think i'll go for T1004X, and decide which whether to get G20 or KX10.

any recommendation?

You have a freaking Gitzo. I'll seriously doubt your sanity if you still wanna upgrade after that. :bsmilie:

Bring your heaviest setup that you'll use for the tripod and see if it holds up. If you can't, go with the more expensive one to give yourself leeway. LOL
