Photography Trip to Siem Reap

Hi, as promised a new thread for for the photography trip.

For those who has been following, after today's discussion we have decided on Siem Reap, 15-18 sept.

There's discussion on extending trip Phnom Penh but nothing concrete yet.

Places of visit:

- Angkor wat
- Landmine Museum
- Kampong Phluk Floating Village
- Wat Thmei Temple & Stupa Memorial to the Killing Fields
- open to suggestions

This is a photography trip so majority of the itineraries will revolve ard several genres, landscape, street, potraits(if u can get the model), etc.

We will be planning for sunrise shoots so be prepared to wake up early in the morning

I'm not against bringing of frens/ spouses/ bf/ gf but they must like photography, if not its going to be miserable for them and for you.

Cost involved includes:

guide cost
transportation cost
cost for admission to various areas like angkor wat
hotel cost (if deposit is needed)

Want to make clear of the cost involved to prevent any unhappiness afterward.
I will refrain from collecting any payment in advance unless deposit is needed.
Will make known of the cost involved once everything is arranged

Air tickets- pls book urself.
Jetstar flies to and from Siem Reap every Tue, Thur and Sun.

As it's my first time organizing trips and to the area, need helps in arranging of guide and finding hotel room. PM me if u can help

I hope to get more input in the planning of itineraries, will plan a meeting once namelist is confirmed

I hope to come out with a namelist by this week so we can start booking tickets and making arrangement.

From Siem Reap to Phnom Pehn, we can take;

1) Bus 5-6hrs (new, comfy, w/ toilet)
2) Boat/Ferry 6hrs (scenic floating village but can get uncomfy and sunburn)
3) Taxi 4-4hrs (but must get a reliable one)

For bus itll be abt USD 9-11, boat USD 30-40, taxi USD 40-50. All these can be arranged by our hotel in advance.

I have some issue for concern here.

1.) may i know what will be roughly the total cost for the whole trip?
2.) i believe if u have a passion in photography, no matter what camera u using be it a iphone to a digital camera or even a DSLR, is ok for the trip rite? i do not know the concern as to what equipment should bring for the trip so would it be advisable if u can advise some? maybe we can start the ball rolling by telling pple what camera we using so tat pple can give some advice? for me i am using a medium format camera, but now i am thinking to buy a DSLR cause of the canon maronthon event in sep.
3.)i do agree we nid to mit up again b4 we finalise everything.

Possible someone can answer my issue here?

budse, I'm fine with either way. But if we have members who only go for the Siem Reap (4D 3N), then I think we can only go to Phnom Penh after Siem Reap. I'm also waitin to get the green light by my company today. See how. Hopefully everything is ok. I'm very excited for this.

Further details I found on Jetstar. Tentatively, if there's no strong objection, we have the following 2 options;

Option 1: Sin -> Siem Reap (4D 3N) 15th Sept - 18 Sept

Flight: SGD 300.90

Option 2: Sin -> Siem Reap (4D 3N) -> Phnom Penh (2D 1N) 15th Sept - 20th Sept

Flight: SGD 141.95 + SGD 97.60 (aft conversion)
= SGD 232.55

The 2 options are based on no "access baggage" < 10kg. Unless you're bringing your 400mm F2.8, Lightstands, softboxes etc. Hehe. I'm not sure whether the flight ticket prices will stay the same or when it'll run out. So we need to secure them fast. Alternatively, you can travel by Silkair but it'll be a more expensive. *The figures above is what I got this morning and the dates and flight are still not confirm. So if interested, please put down your name and indicate option 1 or 2 so it'll be much clearer. Be it Option 1 or 2, we will still depart to Siem Reap together.

1) Presently, I'm not able to give u a gd ans for this. Below is to the best of my knowledge:

Expenditure should goes under:

- Accomodation: depends on how well majority wants to stay. I found online a guesthouse offering a single room wth A/C for 14usd/ nite.

U can use this to make a rough gauge. Better ones should go up to 20-30usd per nite.

- Food: Depends on individual. I read somewhere tat its not cheap, 5~10sgd for a decent meal. Will need to check with those who have been there

- Air tickets: Jetstar now offering 300sgd++ for rd trip SIN-SM, but then this will depend on when u bk.

- Transportation & guide: will depend on no. going and wats the best deal we can get

Tickets for places of interest: I can't rem wats the price but I'm sure u can find it online

- Dep. fee: I believed have to pay a fee of 25usd before dep

- Other spending: again depends on individual.

2) I'm bringing a dslr with a 17-70 lens with a tripod for any sunrise/ sunset shoots. 1 reminder bring excess battries, memory cards, films.

3) We should be meeting up for finalising the itenaries, extended trip to Phonm Penh. Date and place should be somewat confirmed.

I would advise Phnom Penh after Siem Reap, so that you will not need to do the stopover that Jetstar has at Siem Reap enroute to Phnom Penh. Jetstar flies Singapore -> Siem Reap -> Phnom Penh -> Singapore if I am not wrong.

Hey Stuffed. Thks for enlighting. It is set then. Sin -> Siem Reap -> Phnom Penh. Now we need to confirm the dates and members whos going. Hopefully we can come to terms and meet up before end of this month (31 July) so we can book our flights and settle the hotel and what not. We got about two weeks to decide. I cleared mine. My boss and gf gave greenlight. Haha. So i'm 80% sure i'm going.

Sorry i am a noob here and this is my first trip for photography and i can expect more work less fun kinda things.

anyway i am not sure i be able to tag along due to finanicial constraint, as i just came bak from bangkok and i only can afford $500 for the trip, so i just listen to what u guys offer and i see i can afford or not.

Anyway thanks Valance for organisinng, i do hope if there would be more trip like this in the future ard the year end? den i b able to go, but right now lets just see the attendence and the cost b4 i really confirm myself if i am going.
