Hello guys,

I'm a noob and using a D7000 now

the question is..

i always needed to used +1 ev to make my photo looks normal ( as in not over or under exposed), if not i will adjust the active d lighting

but if i set it to 0 ev it will turns out under exposed? i tried it on 50mm and 18-105 both same lei...

would be happy if i can recieve some advice =)

thanks in advance...

will post photo later..

best if you post some sample shots so we can evaluate. If you're shooting places with lots of white areas, for example, your camera might think the area is bright and will underexpose.

question to ask is: every photo? if you are shooting straight at a light source, you will most probably be underexposed by default (if you use A priority)
maybe you might want to try setting sunny 16 at a beach or any sunny place during noon time.
e.g. f16, set your iso, then set inverse of your iso for the shutter.. (manual exposure)
if it still under exposes, then probably its your camera issue.. if not, its more of user issue (since you said you know how to set the compensation, i believe it is by default 0)

I do know some cameras tend to underexpose abit also. but not sure about your camera..

3rd thing to ask is whether you are using any CPL filter, or ND filter, or uv filter(which i doubt would underexpose your camera by more than 1/3). these filters cut out light.. (so take them out when you are testing your lenses).

if you have friends who have light meter, maybe it is possible to test the metering also.. (also check what type of metering are you using, spot, matrix etc..? this could mean something)

Make sure your metering mode suits the scene. Also, check the histogram to make sure the picture are really underexposed instead of result of a dim LCD.

And are you sure it's not just your monitor that's not calibrated?

i find nikon's matrix metering a little conservative so maybe its like that on the d7k as well. there's an option in the custom menu to fine tune the camera's exposure can try using that to tune the exposure to yr preference. my d200 is adjusted to +2/6 and the D700 + 3/6.

hey all thanks for the reply =)...

hmm i check the histogram also. mostly it will go more to the left (which mean underexpose?) if im not wrong... normally i will change the active d lighting to normal and check the histogram again and its more even..

im using A mode lei x.x

will post some photo tonight

Why not, as long as you have enough light to properly expose your scene and your flash is able to sync at this speed. :D

Minimum shutter speed for what? Auto ISO sensitivity?

No wonder your shots are underexposed....

o.o will affect ah? hmm thanks for the advice haha.. i off-ed it. =)

Of course will!

Exposure = f(Aperture, Shutter speed, ISO)

Fixing SS @ 1/250 means aperture must be big enough to allow enough light or increase ISO for a proper exposure.

oicoic.. so its better to off the auto iso thingy ah? hmmm

If I'm not mistaken, can leave it on, but change the min shutter speed to.something else like 1/15. Also, check what is the max ISO speed you set.... Can go to 3200, your camera should still be able to handle the noise at that ISO.

thanks all =).. im reading all those mentioned online now haha..

any site to intro? cos i just google them haha

Thanks alot!!
