Hi, wanna get some suggestions from you guys if it will be sufficient if I just bring my 35mm f2.0 lens for this travel?
Would greatly appreciate and welcome all ideas/suggestions.

Thank you very much.

hi
i think 35mm is great for street photography
but it would be useful to have a wider lens with you too

the spaces in tokyo can be quite tight in some places, with lots of small alleys and walkways, hence, maybe bring a wide angle prime or zoom might help. even the simple 17-55 would be decent enough i reckon. :)

Hi,

35mm is pretty ok but quite restricted in tight places.

Was in Japan end last year. 95% of my shots were taken with my 18-55mm kit lens. This is more flexible than the 35mm.

If you have the time, do please check out my thread. I brought my 2 kit lens with me only. 18-55mm & 55-200mm. But the 18-55mm was the main work lens ;)

Its up to you. I brought mine along but I did not use it once. I brought my tripod along too, but I only used it for just for a few long exposure shots in Hakone (lake shots) & after that, I did not touch the tripod for the rest of the trip.

I just bring them along just in case I need to use them.

Thank you camloves. Glad you like the shots I took for my Japan trip ;)

Thanks again madmartian for the advice!!:)

sorry just wanna ask again, will
it be good if i bring my 24-70 as well?
I thinking to leave it behind because of the weight :/

If u ask me, I would use the 24-70mm. Not that wide but it does have a longer reach. It'll b overlapping ur 35mm. So it's extra weight n hassle in changing lens if u bring these 2 lenses.
Unless u r shooting at low light wifout flash, then the 35mm would b gd.

So again, it's ur choice. Actually, it's not that heavy, just bring both, just in case kinda thing

If you are bringing just one lens...24-70mm is just abt right. I used that exclusively (FF body) when I was there in Feb. It was even good enough for the snow monkey place.

I would bring the 24-70 for sure. Tokyo/ Yokohama is quite a scenic area and you will find that a 24 will be very useful. When i was there, my main prime lens was a 24 f2.8 combined with a 70-210. I think you can do without a flash since it is quite heavy to be carrying around. What happened to me was that I brought it to Japan but when left the hotel in the morning, i seldom brought it out. With last minute change of plans etc, i ended up without the flash even in the evenings :(..

A tripod would mostly be used in for night shots in yokohama - the whole minato mirai area but you can get away without by using a bean bag to rest your cam on a ledge or something. The other area is Hakone and maybe the rainbow bridge where you will need it for lakeside shots. Other areas like Kamakura, or metro tokyo area can be photgraphed handheld in most cases.

For the bean bag, normally i would bring a cloth bag (similar to a small pillow case) and buy red beans or kidney beans and fill it there. That tends to be lighter anand easier to bring around.

Thanks for all valuable comments! I guess I will not be missing out my 24-70! Greatly appreciate it~
