If they come up with an APS-C mirrorless body with a few good lenses to boot then life might get interesting.

I suppose Samsung and Sony would be the only real direct competitors using the APS-C base.

Samsung's NX series may offer resistance if they stick with the lens road map and if the NX20 turns out to be a cracking body like its predecessor.

Sony I suppose would get clobbered almost immediately given that they have no real lens options still. :-/

We all know how much you have love the mirrorless format and your Samsung. But have you ever wonder why Canon, Nikon and Pentax (Pentax Q is a mirrorless though) don't come up with a mirrorless format camera up till now? Because they are not capable enough to do it (quite unlikely)? The main reason might be that they have done some research (marketing) and found that they do not need mirrorless format camera (not yet anyway).

And please don't start something like "Sony, I suppose would get clobbered almost immediately." It will most likely start a flamewar all over again.

We all know how much you have supported and loved Samsung (frankly speaking, quite a number of us find the camera fascinating) but... you know... peace.

Err....I was only posting the latest news. No need to get emotional.

The article says that Canon may be planning on entering this market.

I just think that once Canon joins the competition will tighten up.

Regarding Sony. Don't you think they will get clobbered if Canon joins the game? Hardly any lenses in the NEX lineup available. :(

But still it is all just rumours. Nothing is certain until there is an official announcement.

IF canon were to really join i believe sony will just start to release more lenses to compete. I bet sony has a backup plan to counter this.

I would hesitate to call rumors "news".

Anyway, many things are in the mix. FF mirrorless is already out and about (called the M9). Ricoh buys Pentax, and Ricoh is releasing a mirrorless GXR with leica mount. The new G3 that kicks butt, the new Oly E-P3 and E-PL3 shows promise... etc etc... The popularity of the SLTs are eating into the NX10, NX11, G3 territory. The new Pentax mirrorless.

Other rumors abound apart from Canon, like Nikon's mirrorless, and speculation on Ricoh making a GXR mount for Pentax K mount.....

My stand is that Samsung is going get its butt kicked, whether Canon's move into mirrorless happens or not.

Well according to the article they are "considering the possibility". That probably means they will enter the market at some point.

Incidentally, Fuji has confirmed that will join the mirrorless market as well.

The competition will heat up soon. :D

"Considering" might also mean that they found the market either too crowded or that they don't like what they seen and will not enter the market.

Plus, Sony had their own research team (market), there is a reason for them not coming out with more lenses... although none of us would actually know why but knowing the Japanese, technical wise, they do not have any problem. I think that they are still more focus on their DSLR and SLT technology, so they might not necessary feel the need to get too deep into the mirrorless.

Sure, mirrorless format is fast gaining popularity though and there might (and that is a big might) be a chance that major brands like Canon, Nikon and Pentax to join in the fight.

Oh... on a separate note. The Canon's mirrorless camera might not even be in the APS-C format, rather it was a sensor size about the same as Olympus' m4/3 sensor (18mm x 12mm).
