comparison between canon 550d and 600d

hi guys, any one have used 550d and 600d? can hear your review? intend to get it on this coming IT show. saw from both their specs almost the same, and i somehow feel that 550d is better than 60d except for the rotating lcd. correct me if i'm wrong. hope can hear your feedback for both camera. thanks.

erm, are you talking abt 60D or 600D? cos both 60D and 600D have rotating LCD screen. I would assume you are referring to 600D.

Anyway, based on personal preference, I would go for 600D due to the swivel screen. THATS ALL! Cos, as you mentioned, the specs are near the same. So the difference here is more on ergonomics factors.

OTOH, Don't believe what others say. Believe in yourself. Go down to the shops and try it out, feel it out.


btw, don't get it from IT Show...usually bundled with alot of useless stuffs and sold at RRP. We have a list of recommended shops in the Price guides. Please check it out, these shops are usually selling it cheaper. Give them a ring if in doubt. (the savings made by buying from recommended shops may/can get you a dry cabinet also.)

1. Read the DPReview review of the 600D. It is, of course, compared to the 550D.
2. Do NOT get from the PC Show unless you really don't mind paying full RRP and getting a bag full of useless so-called "freebies".

Both spec are practically the same. However, as pointed out by Dpreview (I think) and many other websites, 600D had some very neat movie functions which are lacking in 550D. So if you are all bent in movie creation, get the 600D. If still shots are most of what you do, u can save up some money and get a 550D, the extra will buy you some excellent accessories such as flash or tripod.

erm... i'm referring to 550d and 600d. cus from the spec that i saw, both have the same 18 megapixel. and the only different i saw is only the rotating screen which 550d don't have the rotating screen. and also, my friend working at canon this coming IT show, and he said can give me as much freebies and possible. that's why i getting it from IT show. hahax. but pardon for my noob, which accessories (extra battery, dry cabinet, etc) are good to have? thanks.

hmm.. most likely i will be using it for shooting of sceneries, peoples and so on. but there will be time that i will use it for videoing. if i get a good lens, will the videoing quality improve?

If u have a good lens, pic quality will improve, but what is the most important thing is still your shooting technique, this go for both still pics and also videotaking. I have seen people with kit lens shooting fabulous photos and I have seen people with 'L' lens but shoot so-so photo.

Mind you, 550D's video mode is also pretty impressive. It is just that 600D has certain functions (can't remember what) that is more useful for video creation. But if you do not need all those extra features, go for the 550D and the saved money can get you either a tripod (very, very useful) or a dry cabinet (very very very useful).

icic... by the way, can i ask somethings? is mega pixel a important factor in DSLR? cus in my mind i also looking for nikon d3100 which have 14 megapixel if i'm not mistaken. and also, what are the key factor and specification to look for if wanna compare DSLR? thanks.

I would say... not really tat important... but that is only me. I am using a 10 MP DSLR until recently and it served me well... if my old Canon hadn't die on me... I would have carry on using it. I would suggest that you read Rashkae's "What DSLR to buy" thread for better understanding on what to look out for when you wanted to buy a camera.

No one here can tell you what key factors and specification to look out for when you compare DSLR, because only yourself know what you want most. Different DSLR are good for different purposes... such as good movie mode, speed, high ISO, auto-focus in movie mode, vari-angle LCD, etc. So the best way is to go down to the shop, play with different DSLR and see which one feels better.

Other things to look out for is the expansion capability - such as accessories, lenses, etc. Buying a DSLR is not just a buying a camera... it is buying a whole system that include lenses, external flash, etc.

to print a A4 size, 10 mp is enough, you will not be able to see the difference, compare to a 14 mp, unless you put it side by side.

if you going to upload into facebook, 5 mp will be more than enough.

Video is VERY low-resolution compared to pictures. So a good lens will not improve the quality.

Can you deal with manual focus in videos? If you need autofocus that's at least somewhat fast an accurate, you are looking at the wrong system.
