No, not cheaper. But with more cheap cheap freebies. My advise is for you to wait for the 60D to get back on shelves in respectable shops like CP, John, TK, etc... or look into the BnS section to get second hand ones.

Personally I never been to IT show to get my cameras, no need for all those freebies and hated the crowd.

If you would just do a search for "IT show" you'll realize the "worth it to get camera at <insert show name here>" question comes up every 3 months. In almost ALL cases, NO it's not worth it (with some very few exceptions).

i asked courts somerset..thy have stock for kit 2...
not for body only even kit 1...

buy from megastores can get credit card instalment plans, while buy from camera stores usually is cheaper but pay all at one shot and is by cash term.

depending what card you use, can be more worthwhile to pay by credit card instalment.

On topic on buying the 60D from PC SHOW. imo for general consumers, ITfair/PCshoes/comex/sitex are good events for beginners. The freebies, not worthwhile to majority of us, does act as a good "starter kit". Memory cards, extra batt, notsogood tripod, lens cleaning kit, camera bag, screen protector, cheap filter. I feel for people new to dslrs, it's a rather good and complete package. (a new buyer walking into a camera shop may not know of a uv filter, and may not want one even if the sales guy recommend because he does not know what it does. The freebies covers such issue)

But if looking to upgrade, then perhaps it's not so economical to go to these events. Unless stock elsewhere is really limited.

$0.02

That's very true, agree much.

Reminds me of a story too. Not judging any singaporeans, but my friend who studies business who studied the courts installment model says " sometimes you see a some families having DSLRs, and they don't look like people who can afford luxury goods, but installment system allows them to pay affordable installments ($70~ a mth?) over a year plus, yet allow them to have a 'want' immediately in their hands. The installment model here on such goods is a genius."

Not true. I got my 7D from John who quote me S$2200 (incl of GST) if I pay upright and after opting for 1 year installment plan using my credit card, I got it at around S$229X (not sure how much, but definitely not more than S$2300) while megastore is selling me S$2549 even without interest charge installment. I still save on S$249.

as i said depends on what card used as banks may have additional promotions during It Fair time compared to retailers.

A friend of mine bought a MBP 15" with a certain bank CC during show and got an unbelieveable deal out of it.

I am not saying about the fair, but in answer to your previous statement.

And John 3:16 didn't specifically say which bank they accept or prefer as long as it is visa (I suspect mastercard can also).

I am saying that megastores, even with the interest free installment plan, is still more expensive than 'street' price with interest.

The only unique thing that megastore offers that others does not is super long extended warranty at a cost. I'm not saying this is worth as the cost of that is quite high.

Credit card installment is NOT exclusive to megastore. Check our Cathay and TK for their credit card installment plan.

I see ppl still do not understand the idea of buying freebies... The so call freebie is well paid for with the RRP that u paid in megastore, even with the bit of discount u get from credit card, store discount, it's still not worth the freebies u receive. Do note buying from those reputable stores instead or megastore also net u similar freebies while u pay much lower than RRP. Might not be exactly the same but the cold hard cash saved can buy u better equipments.

If you are not confident to buy additional accessories for camera care, there are threads here discuss what to buy and use. I can assure you that u will spend lesser in the long run.

In IT Show, buying camera and computer, TV is a total different thing.

People especially newbies may think that buying in IT Show is always the cheapest, but in fact they are totally wrong, because they pay the original retail price by Canon or Nikon. And they are usually attracted by the freebies which are quite useless to me.

Thanks for all your pro comments about buying my 60D at the IT fair. Now i can see that camera seems to be at a hot demand, mainly cos of the japan earthquake and thus production slowed down. But my main concern is that can i get it even before the IT fair? Recently mastered photography with loads of practice on the G12, and sold it to upgrade. Wanna get a seond hand but B & S no good deals for Canon 60D.

Anyone know hows the production like in jp alr? have been following for weeks, say production continue 3 weeks ago, but sg still bo stock leh.. Comments?

I don't think many people would have any insider info on how was production going to be like in Japan, assuming that production had started already.

As to getting the 60D from the fair... my question is... do you really, really... really (x3) want to get the camera this early or do you think you can hold on to that tot for a while more. If production had started 3 wks ago and full production load was started by now, I think 60D supplies should be quite abundance from July onwards... or at from August.

well i might just wait. Cos i will definitely not get it at courts or HM or denki.. its just too ex and selling at canon's retail prices. So just wait for those famous camera stores to stock up on the camera. But of cos i wanna get it soon, as im darn bored without a camera. IM BITTEN BY THE SHUTTERBUG!
