If you can only bring 1 lens out for Street-Shooting, what will it be?

If you can only bring 1 lens out for Street-Shooting, what will it be? Is it 24mm, 28mm, 35mm or 50mm?

For me, i choose 35mm because the angle of view is just nice. Not too close not too far.

I am a 50mm person. This is because 50mm forces you to be selective, to compose, to adapt and to find form within the standard viewpoint of your eyes.

I find 35mm similar to 50mm. But 35mm slightly wider angle is abit boring because it is sometimes too inclusive. This can be distracting.

IMHO only, a well taken 50mm pic is usually superb. A well taken 35mm pic is usually decent. I tend to have more usable 35mm photos than 50mm photos. But of the photos I love, there are alot more 50mm than 35mm. Most of my 35mm shots are average.

IMHO also, in this digital age, 35mm is often favoured to 50mm because in post-processing you can crop the 35mm to a 50mm and 'adjust' the composition accordingly. I do not favour such an approach because it takes the fun out of the 50mm. Indeed, I sometimes find the 35mm to be an 'easymode' version of 50mm. lol

50mm was my standard lens 22years ago. 24mm became my standard lens since I started to study photography 18years ago.

I love the 50mm BUT if i need portability and ease of movement... then the 28mm is indispensible why ? Depth of Field and Wide-Angle to capture details. Usually the 28mm means that you have to stand quite close to the subject so this is perfect if you are shooting at rallies, supermarkets etc.

50mm because it's my most expensive lens. Sounds like a weird reason but obviously you have to feel good using your lens right?

I used to be a 35mm kinda guys... After a few session with the RFSG folks and the rave of 50mm.... I tried it and now I am hooked to 50mm for street. 35mm suddenly too wide for me(!) I was shocked by how "wide" it is after shooting 50mm for a month.

uuhhmm, 28, cus i can use scale focusing easier.. heheh.. and it's wide but not too wide.. sometimes my 35mm XA is not wide enough..

I love the 50mm, but I find it too tight in most situations. If I can only bring one lens, it will be the 24mm

I initially started out with 50mm as they were the cheapest & fastest lens with a huge variety to choose from.

As I go along, I find 50mm too tight for comfort, changed over to a 35mm, worked pretty well for me.

Lately I've gone wider to 21mm. Loving it. Scale focusing is the real deal :thumbsup:
But going wider than 25mm & below does have its challenges, its not as easy to compose & frame as a 50mm imho.

35mm for me, as it is really great for general shooting, not too wide and not too tight.
But if i were going to shoot mostly portrait shots, then i would use 50mm.

I used my CV 35mm/f1.2 for my walkarounds a lot abroad because they are flexible (plus, people don't really care about you shooting in the West). Singapore-wise, I'd have to use at least a 50mm. 35mm... well, sometimes at night yeah when I need the speed.

50mm lens for me is a neither-here-nor-there lens range. Its not wide enough to capture tightly spaced street area, nor it is long enough to give me that extra range to capture the longer ranging shots. But paradoxically this is the most ideal range for me, the only effort I need to put is my legs - got to leg-zooming all the time. But I just simply love this lens range.

I am a lover of the 50mm range as well. with the 50mm I find it's easier to isolate area that I want. and if using on a x72 viewfinder magnification, it allows me to be able to see my subject outside the frame, which is impt for me ad well..

previously i used 50mm for my FF dslr. i felt it was not very wide enough, not there or here. but after switching to rf and using a 35mm lens. i think i might prefer 50mm on a rangefinder (maybe because the min. focusing distance for my 35mm is 1metre, would love to go closer haha)

When you need speed, the more you have to stick with the 50mm, cos the 50mm are the fastest glass around! :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:
I'm a 50mm guys even on the M8; half my lenses are 50mm.
