6 days ago I decided to use benzoyl peroxide to treat me acne, without knowing that I will wake up with severe irritation and redness on my ENTIRE cheeks! The next day they turned scaly and PURPLISH BLACK, so I decided to apply Palmer's Cocoa Butter Oil on them to moisturise. After a while when the skin was soggy, I stupidly started to rub away the black skin, leaving 3 GIGANTIC cuts on my right cheek. They hurt like hell, so I read up and applied Vasaline on them. I woke up with petroleum jelly stuck to my wounds and when I tried to remove them, it peeled my skin off and extended my wounds. It then began to swell up and hurt like hell. Being stupid again, I decided to apply antiseptic cream on it - Burnol, which again was stuck to my skin and extended my wound area when I tried to remove it.

I now look like a burn victim and I can't stop crying. i have skipped 3 days of school because of this.

Yesterday I went to Kreta Ayer Clinic to visit Dr. N. J. Tan and he gave me Gentamicin Sulfate 0.1 cream, Dhasolene pills and Strimox pills. The cream dissolved some of the burnol but left my skin very soggy.. the doctor said to keep the area dry but it's impossible as the cream is 24/7 moist! My skin is now soggy and looks like as if it will fall off anytime. I am so terrified what should I do?

I cried over and over again and I still am.. I have learnt from this mistake but I would like to gain more knowledge on what to do..

I've read that skin burns and cuts take 7 days to heal and it's been 6 but I still look like a burn victim. What should I do?!

I think it's best you seek professional advice and get in touch with another skin specialist if you are not happy with the advice/treatment that the Kreta Ayer Clinic has given you instead of asking here since non of the CS members can see or know exactly what condition you are in.

sorry to read about your condition....

Hi, I am a medical doctor. From what I hear, you are suffering from something which should not be treated by just any beautician, and possibly needing specialist attention. Skin problems are traditionally easy to get and hard to heal. Without seeing you in person, it is hard for anyone to make a diagnosis, let alone treat and cure your condition.

Before the condition leaves you with permanent marks or scars, please do yourself a favor and go to see a skin specialist asap. The faster the better. Be it in the private sector or in the government sector. In fact if it is really that bad, go to the emergency department. If you lose enough skin, it might even be classified as a burn injury. :s

Good luck and god speed!

Hi, thank you all for replying. I really appreciate all your replies, they really helped! :)

Daddy Bear, the doctor I've visited yesterday, Dr. Tan Ngak Jiang from Kreta Ayer Clinic Pte Ltd, is a skin specialist. I know that Gentamicin Sulfate is used to treat infections but I wonder if it would leave my skin wet and soggy as it is? I am afraid to go to a hospital as I can not afford the medical treatment - my parents are away on holiday.

Also, may I know how long does it take for a skin infection on the face to fully recover?

Thank you!

Hi

If it feels that its getting worse and you are worried about costs, go to the emergency department of any GOVERNMENT hospital. There the costs is capped and at least another specialist will see you asap, including possibly a dermatologist.

For example, NUH or TTSH should do you nicely.

The period of recovery depends on the severity, I really cant comment without seeing you. Not right of me too. I am no dermatologist.

You can try Bella Skin Care too. My cousin went there for acne treatment and was very happy with the sessions there. Took about 3 months to get rid of it. Rather long because her acne was really bad, almost like that Mark Lee. But i suggest you go to the skin centre first to get a proper diagnosis as your condition seems bad. And whatever you do, please do not keep touching your affected area. Keep it clean! good luck!

I suggest you consult a proper doctor and if you think that whatever has been given to you is not working you can always seek a second opinion.

I would suggest further to be patient, there is no quick solution sometimes. Just think about it - somehow your skin has been damaged and it needs time to heal. You don't expect the doctors to be able to grow back a piece of flesh you had chopped off somehow overnight, the same applies for the skin on your face. In any case, you are listed as 17 in your profile. Youth is an advantage (most of the time) when it comes to such matters, so relax! :)
