Hi,

I have gone around window shopping for a proper oven big enough to bake cake (not just cookies) likely around 60L range. I have yet to come accross gas stove. Even Ariston models which I saw in shops here have gas top cookers (4-5 burners type) but their oven are all electric. This brand is very famous in Indonesia, my mum has one which is 25 yrs old and still going strong (4 burner + 35L oven) all gas. I know some family friends are still using like 30+ year old ariston model also, and still burning strong (provided the gas cylender is not empty - no piped gas in Indonesia).

The only brands/models I can find around in Singapore so far, for gas oven, are for commercial use which is an overkill. My wife just want to bake a "proper black-forest" cake  which she cannot find in Singapore (all dark chocolate) and no overly creamy like those sold in cake shops.

Is it because gas oven is not allowed in HDB?
If anybody has knowledge on this, please share.

I don't think it is not allowed but Gas Ovens are not popular here because our gas is so much more expensivw than in other countries.
You can get good electric ovens from Tecno ans Ariston. Some of them are the 900mm width ones that I am dreaming about. Should serve your needs.

Thanks for the info. :)

Could it be gas price is cheaper for commercial establishment compared to household? I know electricity is priced that way.
Funny thing is more restaurants use gas ovens than electric oven. May be I have to import from neighboring country into singapore? hahaha. Anybody know ariston or tesco approved dealers in JB?

Gas oven not available in Singapore? Which planet you came from?

Planet earth
Please let me know if you come accross and one that can be used in HDB flat. Around 60-70L capacity is good. I dont want big commercial or industrial one.

Sorry. Have edited the post.
My late mum used a free standing combo where we put the LPG in on one side. Maybe the brand was Ariston.
That was a long way back...from early 1970s. I think the oven was gas.
Cannot recall clearly but it seems they never needed to plug in the electric power cord to AC outlet when cooking.
With gas oven (just like with gas water heater) you have to turn the gas control valve and then light the flame.

My place quite near to Ariston outlet. Will ask for you.

Also, you can check with TEKA. A German home kitchen appliance supplier.
This is the URL link.

They have good gas ovens called the FG range.
Do a Google search for this catalog
teka gas ovens CAT-0000001.pdf
Scroll down to page 34.

You can check with Singapore Civil Defence Force (they oversee some Fire safety matters)
Can check with SP Services or City Gas for gas related matters.

Thank you for the hint.

I immediately checked SG website but could not find FG range from the menu. It could be hidden. Will give them a call next week.

Ricohflex, thank you for the info.
I called SG showroom just now but greeted by their answering machine. Apparently they are off till 26 April. Shall wait. :)

As for buying from Dubai, er.. I rather get it from JB or Batam probably will cost me less in terms of transport cost.
May not be the very posh build-in model. May be the old style stand-alone stove+oven combo similar to what my parents have.
If I cannot connect it with normal piped PowerGas then I may become a regular customer for UNION cylender-gas :p

Piped gas has its advantages and disadvantages. People favour electric oven as it is easy to run an electrical cord to fit the interior designer's plans of where to put oven. Running a fixed gas pipe to it may not be flexible in location. LPG will give you free choice of where to site the oven. And you can choose to move oven anywhere you want later.

Asked the Ariston salesman for you. He said never bring in gas ovens now.

But commercial eateries, maybe they use gas ovens. Because of the speed of cooking required and cost of energy if they use electrical ovens only on such high volume.
