Hi, i've been taking quite a lot of pictures now.... and i found out i can't really tahan the lens that my DSLR set gave me... it's a starter kit when i bought d5000...

I'm thinking of looking for a lens, which is able to cater to a lot of field, model taking and some Hardwares photo to be taken are my priority...

and also... im thinking of looking for a external flash, well, because i felt that my camera built in flash aint doing much...
I would be most gladly to hope u guys can recommend me some external flash to can be mounter on to my camera.

Budget wise is ehh... cheap bah...
Just try not to go to some point that i have to go for very cheapo equipments.

Well, to conclude... Im not a professional but i hope u guys can guide me with the budget wise and the equipments that i should get. THANKS!!!:D:D:D

Learn how to use off-camera flash. It's cheaper than getting a new lens and you will probably be needing that for shooting models or shooting sharp hardware photos.

what is it that you cannot tahan??
can try Nikon 17-55 2.8
cheaper version Tamron 17-50 2.8

Hmm what do you mean by cannot tahan your kit lens? Can you tell us the exact limitations you encounter with your kit lens?

And also :p Im thinking for a lens hood too... may u guys introduce to me what is useful if i get it?

What is your budget?

If you want cheaper stuff, These might work for you:

Tamron 17-50mm/2.8 BIM, non-VC - around $500 used, $630 new.
Nikon AF 50mm/1.8D - around $190 new, used $160
Nikon SB-700 flash - around $450 new.
or Nikon SB-600 - around $250-280 used.

dude, u got 3 duplicate threads with 2 of the same topic while the other slightly different, but of the same question.

Hmm.. looks like the kit lens suits you best otherwise.

Eh, 50/1.8D cannot AF on D5000.

@TS: what is it with the kit lens that you cannot tahan?

you want cheap, want to do field work, model, shoot hardware (products i presume).

your kit lens does all the things u said. its cheap, if damaged from field work just throw, zoom to tele-end wide open to have shallow depth for portraits, and its one of the Nikon consumer grade lens that can focus pretty close to things (if u need to be closer to ur wares).

for flash, get a second hand SB600 will do.

TS, maybe you can post up an example photo of the best photo you've got, taken with your D5000 and kit lens.
This will give us an idea of:
1) what you are trying to photograph
2) what issues might be affecting the apparent lack of image quality you are facing.

I'm not sure what is 'model taking'. Is it photographing scale models of stuff, or the XMM variety?

Sorry for the multiple threads, the forums is screwing me posting threads...

alright basically i wan it to be able to zoom further as i sometimes wanna take photo from a distance.

ehh i think my current lens is a 18-55mm bah gotta go home and check... currently outside (SORRY D: )

sometimes flash apprear to be found in the middle and there's only a 1 bright spot and the rest of the spots seems to be alittle darker... what i wan is to have it disperse equally on the product...

Maybe what im looking for is just zooming lens... im looking at AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED... What do u think?

I would like to ask if the depth of field (which is the blur at the back), is possible to be affected by the lens? if so, is there any recommendation for a len to do that well.

Sorry for the all the multiple post as the forum is not doing well properly... SORRY~

and again im not very professional. just a guy who felt like playing with camera who i just started...

If you're going for cheap set up. You can try the SB 400 or even a pop up flash diffuser.
Lens wise. you can try 18-105. should be able to get easily as it's also a kit lens. (if you're going for reach.)
Tripod will be useful too in some situation.

I think you need to think about how you can diffuse/spread the light more evenly.
Can consult with macro photographers, who have become very adept at modifying everyday items (eg. cup noodle container, etc) and use them as diffusers :)
