My Company has this old camera

Hi, my colleague showed me a camera that my company owned and asked me if it can be sold off. I am suprised to see such an old camera. After inspection, the shutter still working, there is a leak in the battery compartment, no obvious handle marks and scratches on the body.

I am thinking of keeping this camera.
But fear the battery compartment cannot be serviced.

Please tell me if it is worth.

The camera is Praktica MTL 5.

Practika was a 'budget' range of SLR coupled (usually) with the low-end Zeiss Jena range of lenses.

Likely you have to pay someone to take it away nowadays. Might as well keep!

Batt is for metering IIRC - not sure if shutter was fully manual control. If no batt and can c-o-c-k and fire on all speeds, it's manual.

looks like a fully mechanical manual camera, should able to work without the battery, anyway, the mercury battery are hard to find nowadays, using Sunny f16 rule plus little experience, shouldn't have problem doing mental metering.

The shutter is fully manual control. The camera can fire prefectly, without the battery.

you might want to test it out the shutter speeds -- may no longer be accurate. Prakticas were the Soviet tanks of the camera world, rough and ready but not very refined

but threw away liao, should have keep it.

i had "pentax" manual SLR too, split focuing + manual focusing + manual coompensation...those days everything manual. but very fun...even loading of negative film was manual.

I have this. It is basic and good. Most times you don't need 4 frames per second and 1/4000th sec shutter speed that you can get on other cameras.

sounds like my minolta x300-s o.o the manual spilt focusing was irritating. must align eye properly etc etc and slowly adjust until both semicircle meet HAHAHA

My late father gave me a Seagull fully manual SLR. I pick up interest in photography then.

I sold it and bought a Nikon. I think it had a Minolta mount.

He told me that he used it to woo my mother... haha

I did not know photography can do so much. I had a lot of attraction but ended up with my wife.
