It is indeed great news that this long awaited lens is finally available for Pentax mount. Just like the Sigma 50mm 1.4, this is a big lens, especially when compared to the FA77. This lens has the new finish, which is black with a silky touch. Looks really good but I think it marks more easily than the previous matte greyish finish.

Anyway, here are some real life shots from this lens which arrived earlier this week from B&H. It is not yet available in Singapore.

To say that I am very happy with the results is an understatement

It looks very impressive from most of the pics I have seen so far. A very good alternative to the FA 77 / FA*85.

very nice pics from the sigma. any good reasons to get this over the FA77? since FA77 is cheaper and with the new k-r/k-5 high iso capabilities having a 2/3 stop slower FA77 is not as disadvantage as before in low light conditions.

i was planning to get the FA77 in future...

f1.4 compared to f1.8 gives a noticeably shallower depth of field.

But the Sigma is also a lot larger and heavier than the FA77.

Bro, I knew you'd be one of the first to get the Sigma 85mm. As usual, your model shots are just great.
This Sigma is definitely on my wish list but unfortunately, a local shop just told me that Sigma Singapore WILL NOT bring in this lens in Pentax mount locally.
Guess they can't match prices overseas so they can't be bothered to make it available... Idiots!
Personally I think the Sigma 85 is a lot more desirable than the FA 77 Limited...

Sharp at f1.4 and... oh...that bokeh... oh....

I tried this lens on my Canon 5D and it was actually better than my Zeiss Contax 85f1.4 in CA and purple fringe control. Of course, bokeh is miles better. Sure like to see a direct shoot-out with the 77 ltd.

Agree with flowerpot, the f1.4 is not so obvious (or desirable) for head and shoulder shots but for full body shots it is really nice to have.

No full body shots ? Thats where the 77mm will struggle to match the 85... else 77mm is as good as the 85... and i like the 77mm rendering better...

I am putting the 77 ltd on hold because there are more alternatives. What do you really mean when you said you prefer the 77 ltd's "rendering"? I am more concerned with color as I hate to PP color.

The o/p from the Sigma 85/1.4 sure looks nice.

Depends on what you want. 85/1.4 is much larger (ie. less portable) so 77ltd is unique in this way.
77ltd is also cheaper.
The 77ltd will be nearer to subject since FL is shorter. (ie. DOF is affected by this as well)
It all depends on how comfortable you are in lugging around a larger lens.
0.4 stop difference between the 2 lens is not a big deal in terms of low light performance.
Personally, I like the subject isolation ability of a 85/1.4, though at times I wish it was smaller like the 77ltd so that I'd bring it out more. :)

Yep. The 85 is sharp and all that, but the rendering is so-so like the Samyang version, clinical.

i dunno how to explain in words... we live in a world with depths, or 3D, i dun think we shoot flat objects, they are for ppl who shoot test charts and brick wall...

the 77mm will render the image with "more depth" or more 3D like... there is just a bit more feel and more life to the image...

Thanks. So, the 77 ltd is more zeiss-like, so to speak, subject isolation rendering.

So...if we talk about price wise, will the sigma be a lot more expensive than the 77?
I don't have neither but dun mind getting either.
I'll definitely prefer the portability of the 77.
I'll also love the 85mm of the sigma.
IQ wise, i guess the sigma is on par with 77 lah.
