I've purchased a box (2, left and right) of weekly contact lens afew months ago. last month, I've opened one lens to use and never touched it since then. My question is, can i still use the "used once" contact lens? It's been stored in the contact lens case with saline liquid.

i believe there's also a period of time that you can only store the lenses for. if in doubt, call the manufacturer of the solution/lenses.

i hope no one asks if you stored them in a dry cabinet :bsmilie:

I sorta lost the case. Just found it, it was in my bag the whole time! and when i opened it, it's so dry that the lens sticked onto it. darn it turned very bluish too. I guess i have to open a new one, but i find it a waste because once i used it, i'll not use it again for a month or so...

then you should get dailies. i wear contacts everyday so i buy monthlies

Yeah regret buying weekly. But weeklies are cheaper than dailies. But less quantity.

hmm but seeing as you rarely wear contacts, dailies would be better xD

i remember the year i won a year's supply of dailies... i took 2 years plus to use them all up.

wow a year's supply, that's ALOT. I'll keep the dailies in mind. For the time being, i'll just use the weekly until i've used all up. Don't wanna spend as i'm saving for camera gear stuff :D

you cannot wear the lens anymore , u are suppose to change solution everyday and u cannot soak in saline no disinfect agent so cannot clean your lens well ,by discarding the lens safe your eye from infection. daily lens is the best lens for u.you only have 1 pair of eyes so pls take care it.

No. Due to the material, coating, and properties of the weekly lenses, they are meant for use for a week only. Besides, bacterial / fungi might have already happily been living on the lens for the past months.

Also, you should not be storing your lenses in saline, but in multipurpose solution (or H2O2, if you're using such the peroxide system like AOSept and OxySept).

For weekly or bi-weekly lenses, when you remove from eye, rinse and rub with multipurpose solution before storing in lens case with multipurpose solution. When you remove it the next day, rinse with saline before insertion into eye. Rinse case and leave to dry. Do not top up solution into the lens case.

Just go for lasik. will save u alot of money in the long run.

Thanks for the tips. I do not know what kind of solution my sister bought.(she wears contacts as well) the bottle says buffered saline which I assume it's the solution for storing lens. Don't really know much about solutions, what is the difference between saline, buffered saline or multi purpose solution?

Well answered by Timolol, who i believe a optometrist.

for your case, dailies would be the best. it may be more costly per pair but if since u are using it only few days each month, it is more worth it.

buffered saline or some people call it just saline, are solutions for rinsing the lens only. definitely not for storing purpose!
to store and wash your lenses you will need the Multi-purpose solution(MPS) with brand names like "Opti-free", "Complete", "SoloCare".
daily lenses would not require any storing, so would be more convenient as well.

to explain the diff b/w saline n MPS: take your lens as a dirty tshirt, saline as water, MPS as the detergent. will you rinse your tshirt with water or will you wash it with detergent? :)
