While Pentax may have brought out the kr as part of the usual new 6-12 month new model lineup, my kx continues to work like a charm, and part of that charm is standing out in its attractive white casing.

Over the last 3 months I've brought it to several outings and functions, and it always gets looks and "can I have a look?" from people. In the meantime, everyone else has their boring black Canon, Nikon or whateverelseIdon'tdontreallygive arat'sbuttsincemineissomuchcooler camera.

The white hasn't turned yellow, the photos are still very sharp, even with the kit lens, night performance is still good, and I'm still finding out new things about it all the time :)

KX is going to be a classic- the first to combine both style and substance :)

KX rules:thumbsup:

cool, but the way you put it is like, Kx will be stop working like a charm , pic will not be sharp when there are new model in the market?:dunno:

have fun. :)

Good that you love your tools. :) take good care of it and it will serves you well.

To me, I don't care if people want to look at my camera. If they don't want to look at it, so much the better, I can shoot to my heart's content without people fawning over how it looks, or what it can do, or what it couldn't.

It's just a camera, it's just a tool. To me, it is a means to an end. What I care about are the pictures, and whether I please myself with my pictures. Pictures are what photography is about to me, not whether people talk about me, or want to touch my camera. Cheers.

A camera is a camera, I use it to take photos. The Kx is definitely a good camera, but honestly I can't be bothered about standing out when it comes to camera colours. When I'm shooting, I don't want people to bother me or be bothered by me, so attracting attention isn't my main objective. In fact it is what I don't want. Black is more inconspicuous.

I'm not saying the Kx is a bad camera - it is definitely a very competent camera, but if style is your main concern in a camera, you can't be a very serious photographer. It sounds more like you are an attention seeker than a photographer, from the way you talk about the Kx.

I just sold my beloved white Pentax K-x. Gone are the days I get attention but never seriously take any pics. Back to my K10D... the serious, all black, weather sealed... jungle ready super cam. Maybe now I can take some serious pics :)

Anyway, my take is that K-x is a good camera all round with the bonus that it looks really, really nice as well.
But life goes on... I am saving up for the K-r... maybe K-5... whatever.

My k-x was with me on 2 recent overseas trips. Tour mates and passers have remarked about its looks. Canikon users (when they feel bold enough) usually ask me why i choose the k-x after commenting that its unique to be white. My standard answer is:-

i could tell you i got it because of its great iso performance or because its a value-for-money dslr. but in reality, i am shallow and i got it because it was white!

that tends to disarm people and their prejudices but also to kinda hint that indeed you knew what you were getting!

no regrets going pentax and i too still love my white k-x!

Yes, I am a very shallow guy.

Deal with it :-D

Dude, I feel the same way.

What's wrong with both wanting good photos and having a flashy camera?

It's like driving a car.

If you just wanted something to get you from A to B, you'd buy a second hand Getz.

But it seems plenty of people drive much more expensive and flashy cars.

Why can't we do the same for our dslr's?

They're entitled to their choice, but I would get a simple car. And fact is, I will always think the people driving expensive, fast, flashy cars in Singapore are wasting their money in a congested city and I always feel like laughing when I see a Ferrari stuck in traffic.

People are entitled to their choice of feelings about your choice/statements as well, just so you know... If you're going to start to harp on that "freedom of choice" thing. :)

I'm just commenting on my viewpoint, you can choose to disagree, but it still remains my viewpoint. Cheers.

oh no. i trade my K-x for K-r.

But the new overall performance suits my needs alot better :)

Well, i wasn't really getting it bec its a fashion statement. I just liked the way the white looked compared to a black dslr. Its an attractive piece of kit! I didn't really care what others thought of it.

But even after the "initial attraction" upon seeing one, i did not buy it.

I did do quite abit of research on the k-x before getting it to confirm it wasn't "all show and no go" or "all flash and no dash", to borrow your automotive analogy... :)

In that respects it did not disappoint. The illuminated AF feature is probably the only thing i wish it had (and also the auto WB may not be so intuitive in certain indoor conditions) but that's about it.

It serves the purpose of a first-time DSLR user and the lack of a myriad of buttons on the camera is a God-send as far as i am concerned (as muddled-head, butter-fingers me, tends to hit the wrong buttons often).

And yes, it looks good!

a white k-r looks just as good as a white k-x :)

I love the color options provided by Pentax. Simply because black is dull and initially was meant to be serious, as DSLRs started off as professional items.
As for now, it's an entirely different thing right now. They are more affordable, more user-friendly and more consumer-based. (just look at those cheapo plastic they user nowadays.)

Besides being flashy, i like the way it sends out a signal that it might be a toyish camera, nothing serious to begin with. This works especially well with strangers. People tend to chat around with me and letting me take photos of them.

Man, you guys made me feel guilty by changing a black K5 to a silver one :embrass:

Oh well, camera is a tool for taking photos, but it's also a gadget to play play, and I like my gadgets to look nice ... in my own eyes ;)

What evolutioner says..

Me, I actually want to get a pink K-r, no kidding. And I'm a guy.

It's not to grab attention, or wanting people to fawn over my camera, or anything like that.

I was thinking it might make people smile or let down their guard when I go street shooting, or when I do portraits. I think people -- strangers, friends, family -- feel more relaxed in front of small cameras, toy-like looking cameras and of course small lenses. Unless we're talking about seasoned models or friends who are comfortable in front of the camera, which is, not most of them I bet!

Anyway, if someone gets it for other reasons, cos he/she likes coloured cameras or want to stand out, it's perfectly fine too. Some people care only about the end-products, some care about the equipment's looks as well, some are just focussed on other aspects, etc. Nothing wrong in any case. :)

LOL. I guilty of that too..haha But i think it's fine to buy a camera or your favourite color. Right? ;)
