Do you need to use flash when using 50mm f1.8?

I got a 2 noob questions..

1) Do u guys use flash (i mean external flash) when using 50mm f1.8?

2) Any difference in image quality for
- Big aperture lens + no flash
- Small aperture lens + flash
- Big aperture lens + flash

I got a 430EXII and a 50mm f1.8 with me. I am a real newbie. Hope u guys can help. Thanks.

It all depends on your situation and what kind of images you want.

No matter what large aperture you use, there is always a problem when the subject is back-lit. You'll get a bright background with a dark subject (unless you spot-meter at the subject)

So in these situations, you'll need to fill-in flash. Dial in a negative flash EV to get the correct balance of BG and subject.

Also when shooting at night, there will also be a large difference in the pics taken with and without flash.

the relations in 2) bear no real meaning in term of image quality (IQ).
how the flash and aperture are used would only affect the exposure, not IQ.

when you have a lens has maximum aperture of f1.8, it does not mean you must or need to shoot at f1.8.

when you have a flash, does not mean you need to shoot everything with flash.

you need to know what are you looking for when creating a photo, and what the things are available at your disposer, use them or not to use them to get the effects you want.
