I cannot agree more with kei1309. The best way to learn is to shoot more, explore different settings, different angles. No better teacher than experience! :pP

I though this is THE magic setting, just turn on the green dial and you are good to go..
aim at anything bang! bang! bang!, come back just photoshop and photoshop,
don't know what to do just throw the questions in CS forum,
don't worry, nowadays if anyone dare to tell you don't ask spoon fed questions and go Google,
can just use report button file complaints to the moderators.....

And put in effort to understand the basics yourself. In the end, YOU are your best critic, your best teacher, your best student.

Following people whom you perceive to be better blindly doesn't help. Someone who swims faster than you isn't necessarily a good swimming instructor. Some of the best coaches are not great at imparting skills or improving people. In this day and age, you have to pick and choose advice given to you, filter through, think, assimilate. Don't ever take a person's word as the law, especially with all the "this photo does not follow the rule of thirds" comments without any substantial substantiation. Loads of people *are* sadly, keyboard warriors - quickly acknowledge that, yet keep in mind that every person who comments should be given the benefit of doubt (at first) of being well-meaning.

Serious things aside, I thought the magic setting was to find a popular CS XMM, make sure her bikini isn't too conservative, get a sharp, beautiful-bokeh lens, and then shoot shots with the focus on the chest area. That's guaranteed to get you at least 2,000 views and 5 nosebleed comments. For sure. Guaranteed plus chop. :bsmilie:

:bsmilie:

i agree! hahaha!

i realize these days, there are too many newbies asking for a magical set of numbers to crunch. if everyone gets the same shots, then photography becomes boring.

reinvention is the key.

thread's purpose is to get the newbies to READ, UNDERSTAND, TRY, and EXPERIMENT.

hope it works :bsmilie:

I think even if you leave this thread there as a sticky, this will still be the case in 2020.

This is a fact, there will always be people who want a quick fix. It was there in the past, but in today's world, increasingly people want "quick fixes". Just look at modern technology's and marketing's slants, it's all about instant gratification. You want things FAST, YOUR WAY. Sports nutrition offers a magic pill or magic powder which makes you into a hunk; an iPhone offers you the world at your fingertips (albeit on a small, small screen compared to a computer); if you go for that slimming programme every week for 30 minutes you will lose X amount of weight... And the list goes on.

haha.. that's what my Pastor preached on last sunday..

but in terms like this, without thinking about how they can correct the problem, they immediately ask. no self-reflections, no self-testing, no looking within.

shooting more is learning more:thumbsup::bsmilie:

Just for the sake of being a pain in the arse, does this mean that if I buy a D3 and spam the shutter count until I have to change it (say, 100,000 cycles), I will have improved at the end of it all? :bsmilie:

Shooting more (with thinking) is learning more.

Haha yes, shooting more (with thinking) is learning more :bsmilie:

nice thread!

yeah shoot more! and learn along the way

so disappointed to see that there is no magical setting for every situation.

i always rmb the settings and it worked well. :(

Why putting 'with thinking' into brackets? It's the main part... But not only there. Many other questions here reveal a shocking lack of ambition and efforts to explore things and solve questions without big spoon.
