is Canon EOS 1000DKIT worthwhile for beginner?

Its a good start for a newbie, do more research on other brands though, you will find choices better than this, like Pentax Kx and Kr, Nikon D3100 or Sony A33, A55 or within Canon itself, eg. 550D

I regretted getting the kit set. I recommend go for the 1000D body and get a basic 50mm lens. I saw under Buy and Sell, there people selling off their 1000D, u can consider buying a second hand 1000D and 50mm lens.
once u have master the needs, u can upgrade to a 60D or 7D or 5D mkII

I guess within your budget for the body just get the best you can afford so that you need not have to consider upgrading if you need better specs in the near future.
When I started out this hobby in dec 09 I was considering this and 500D and I thought I should spend more to get 500D as it has better specs like ISO etc. Now I am struggling a little with 500D's ISO performance and luckily I didn't get 1000D that time.
Lens, again depends on your budget. 18-55 kit lens is a good one for starter but of course there will be people encouraging you to get a better lens right from the start such as tamron 17-50 etc.

Any of the above mentioned models can give you decent photos. At the end of the day, it's the person behind the camera that produces great pictures and not the camera.
Great pictures have been shot with almost every model of cameras. Just get one within your budget and start shooting (you may want to read up the stickies http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=787393).

My advice first is to determine what kind of camera you want.
do you want it to fit in your pocket?
then go for Canon S95 or G12
do you want a DSLR?
then go for Canon 550D, Nikon D7000
do you have enough budget?
if not then go for Nikon D3100 a little cheaper
If money is no object then go for the high end Nikons and Canons
not sure yet whether you want sa DSLR?
go for a bridge camera with manual controls and megazoom
like the fujifilm s1800 very cheap but with manual controls try it out if you dont like sell it off

Read the "What DSLR to get?" Sticky first. Basically, considering your obvious total lack of skill and inability to make your own decisions, get whichever feels best in your hand. You will be the limit, not the camera, for the foreseeable future.

how could this be cold truth? how did you gauge the lack of skill are you really sure that you are that good?

we were all newbies at one time...
there is no personal attack. TS has given us the impression that he has close to kosong knowledge regarding photography basics. rashkae is simply pointing out that with this in mind, the limit is the person, not the camera. he has not called TS stupid, or any degrading terms. he needs a basic camera now to just learn the basics, thats probably what he meant.

my advice to TS, are u sure ur ready to go into photography yet?
if u really wanna learn, start with film photography. the lack of the ability to see the shot immediately, will force u to consider the conditions more critically before u make that shot. this is probably one of the fastest learnign methods i have been through and within a month u can see obvious improvements, provided u do take time to think and understand the concepts behind.
then, u consider going digital to understand how things work, and continue brushing ur skills. 1000d is more than enough.
