"I think we need a new thread because this is going to become real. It is not about the rumor spread by photo rumors or the "we never rule anything out" interview.

I decided to share this much of what I heard about the forthcoming mirrorless camera from Pentax. Note that none of this is what I heard from Pentax interns (because then I probably wouldn't want to share in order not to compromise my sources). The information may be false actually. But personally, I think it is trustworthy.

Call it a dream But some of my dreams come true

Here we go:

Pentax is going to release a mirrorless camera indeed. It will already happen around the end of this quarter. It may already go into testing next month. And it will support AF for K-mount SDM lenses, most likely via an adapter. So, the "we never rule anything out" comments from Pentax must be part of a game which is already taking place and which I don't appreciate.

Here, you have it in a nutshell. I'm sure we will hear more about it soon. I can only hope that Pentax doesn't forget to fix the K-5 firmware bugs. Because, I am sure, the K-5 is still more exciting for enthusiasts after the dust will have settled"

The bold part is kinda WTF - what about all those wonderful screw drive FA and DA Limiteds? Also, it will be hilarious to mount any of the SDM lenses on a mirrorless camera, all of them are pretty large!

Tell that to those Sonyians mounting huge alpha lenses on their NEX5 via the adapter.
But seriously, the purpose of mirrorless cameras is to keep it as small as possible. Hence a new set of size-matched and compact Limited lenses would make more sense and allowing an adapter for backward compatibility should be a bonus and not an expectation. But then again, the PRC as innovative as they are, I'm sure there will be a third party adapter once its launched for screw on lenses ! :)

But I am waiting for a NEX5 killer...:)

how about the mirrorless + pk adapter + da 40mm ltd? will it defeat the compactness of mirrorless? ;)

it depends on how big / small the adapter is. if its gonna add 2 inches to the thickness of the DA40, then its pretty pointless.

I guess the adapter won't be cheap, at least same price as DA40 itself :bsmilie:

if same size with LX, the film camera, that is goog enough for me.

It will. the flange distance must remain the same. The size of the adapter will make the pancake looks like a beer can.

If it has the size and look of a LX, MX or KX, it WILL be a killer EVIL camera :)

Sounds like more PF la-la land BS being passed off as fact...
I remain skeptical...

Ergonomics could be one defining factor for the Pentax Mirrorless - the existing mirrorless cameras are more like glorified point and shoots in terms of handling.

Not sure if this is true or not but it appears to be a Pentax patent filing for a m4/3 lens.
Does this mean Pentax is adopting the m4/3 standard instead of the APS-C one like the NEX and NX100?
It may seem more attractive to Pentax since the smaller size possible with the m4/3 will complement their small lenses too and not cannibalise their own entry level camers usinfg APS-C sized sensors.:)

But then again, it also reported this patent was made in 2008 when the Pen and GF were kings and APS-C sized sensors in such cameras had not seen the light of day yet. A lot could have taken place since then with Sony and Samsung and even Fujifilm going for an APS-C-based solution instead.

Would like one, but to get a whole new lens series? Ouch.

An official adapter for our existing Pentax primes would be good. Would make the whole set-up bigger and possibly negating any size advantage vis-a-vis a standard DSLR. But still, it would be *kind of* smaller and also more likely to draw in existing Pentax users who already own pancakes.

Rumours that RICOH will bring out EVIL K-mount.

Plus, Pentax Evil is called NC-1.

Just wait next month for the announcement.

Not bad if ricoh...
I'll be damned if Epson would bring out the Mirrorless...
BTW, Epson is the pentax subcon for PNS... :)

Ricoh, Epson, Pentax alliance.... not too bad actually :)

NC-1 = Non-Conformer #1 :bsmilie:

can't wait for the announcement.

...
NC-1 = Non-Conformer #1 :bsmilie:

Maybe the following alternative meanings...
NC-1 = Nikon/Canon #1
NC-1 = Non-Canon #1
NC-1 = Nice Camera #1
NC-1 = Neat Compact #1
NC-1 = Not Cheap #1

this rumor might be true, my friend told me that a small slr looking camera already pre-production stage-1 in cebu

This is the NC-1 picture, the Pentax first mirrorless camera, nice or ugly?? :dunno:;)
