Newbie on telephoto lense

Hi Guys,

Is this worth buying from amazon ?

I got my canon 550D with Kit I and Kit II lenses, thinking of buying the tamron (telephoto) lense below,
I love to take potraits, landscape and micro, buget about $1.3k. Which others lense to recomend ?

Hmm.. those genres you have listed have little use of telephoto lenses (to me at least).. perhaps you would wanna look at macro lenses instead? If you are interested in tamron, you might wanna look at the 90mm macro lens.. one of the cheaper macro lens out there I suppose..

With that budget, I think going straight to a f2.8 tele zoom would be better. Like a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 (not the new version with OS, that one costs a bomb compared to the old non-OS version). If you buy that from B&H, it works out to around S$1137.04 including shipping if you ship using Borderlinx. The Free shipping thing only applies for people in the USA I think.

TS, if not wrong, I believe you still need to pay for shipping using Fedex/ DHL etc. Furthermore, for items >400sgd, tax is applicable.

TS, the free shipping amazon posted is within US only. Have you compare the saving you will can get from buying online (plus shipping charges, gst and currency exchange) as comoare to buying from local shops? If it is a mere 2-digits saving, I would suggest save the trouble and get from local shops.

Tamron 70-300mm Di VC USD, have checked only two days ago with local SLR at Funan and only S$707, why buy from Internet?
or
Buy Canon 70-300mm IS USM , a very superb lens too as I used it b4.

Canon body does not hv a vib built-in unlike Sony & Pentax so you must buy lenses with (Canon IS), Tamron VR & Sigma DC OS .
