Hi guys!

Looking at purchasing a new TV for my room and been looking at the LG Infinia range, with the ever changing technologies, kind of confused which is the better deal.

I rarely watch Blueray, so its normally DVDs or just regular TV programs, or connecting my laptop to the TV screen for some large screen viewing of anime/programs.

From the below, which seems like a better buy?

42 Inch plasma $699 (reso is 1024 x 768)

42 Inch LED $1079 (full HD and ultra slim)

50 Inch plasma $1199 (full HD)

really surprised how low prices are nowadays for large screen LCDs/LEDs/Plasmas.

LCD is good enough for u.

i recently bought a Sony LCD TV for my rm too! :) used it mainly for TV program, bluerays and connecting to my mbp

In term of sharpness.. nothing compare to CRT but CRT is out and it has it pros and cons!

LED TV, You never regret.
You can see contrast color for HD videocam / HD DSLR in LED TV.

actually from what i read, LED in fact is the same as LCD except it got some back lit thingy that makes it brighter and contrasty as compare to LCD.

but no doubt, if u are a gamer or watch a lot of animations, LED will be a better choice.

else a normal user (tv programmes, connecting to laptop), a LCD is good enough (u can save a few 100s)

in terms of power consumption, LED is the least power hungry, followed by LCD and then Plasma.

LED TVs now have as much color rendition as Plasmas, so i say go for LED. But if you get LCD, still got left over money for a Wii. :bsmilie:

Aaaah, not really. Up to 37" maybe. But bigger than that, LEDs start to suck more juice than you might think.

Agree on the LCD vs LED, ppl may mistake is actual LED. Actually they just change the backlighting to LED type. Ofcos some improvement to the picture quality. Also depending on the LED backlight placement. Got 2 types, side and back. Back is better, also more expensive.

To TS, your usage, Plasma is out as he need to connect to PC. So LED or LCD is up to your preference. The only diff is that the LED's black is more black where LCD is slightly gray.

thanks for your replies so far! have been pretty helpful :)

hmmm din know that plasmas can't be connected to laptops via hdmi cables? was thinking of using it to watch videos only, not really to do any work/websurfing / photoshop on the TV hee...

Plasma is closest to CRT, uses more power and is more likely to suffer from on screen burns.

LCD is cheap now, if the room is not too brightly lit then LCD TVs are ok.

LEDs are expensive at the moment where they're actually cheaper than LCDs to produce, once OLED or something else enters the market then LEDs will come down in prices by a huge margin.

Personally I'd get the LCD for daily stuff and a projector setup for movies.

Which LED has as much colour rendition (colour depth) as Plasmas? This i would love to know. Or nowadays they have S-IPS LED lit LCD screens?

I observe that quite a lot of LCDs TVs now have reflective screens.

I wonder why :dunno: Is it sharper or what.

I can connect my notebook to Plasma TV via HDMI cable with ease, never encounter any problem.

With most materials still in HD-Ready format except Bluray Disc, I could already see notable difference from my transition with 29" CRT TV to 42" PJ350 HD-Ready TV.

No, gives higher contrast. I can't stand them, I hate the glare. I prefer the Sony matte screens.

Comparing my parent's 42" Plasma to my own 42" LCD, the colors in Plasma are still much better. For burn images on Plasma, that is not true at all as newer Plasma TVs have anti burnt technology. For 3 years running, not a single burnt mark on the Plasma TV, however, on the LCD, I've already encountered 2 burnt marks :(.

Btw, I do connect both to my laptop, PC and PS3 and both runs well in 720P / 1080i resolutions. Not all Blu-Ray games from PS3 runs 1080P anyway.

Plasma consume more electricity, generates more heat and heavier but it offers the most natural human skin colour...i'm still using my 3yo 42" panasonic...will get another plasma if i need a new one...its just my preference...:bsmilie:

No la, i doesn't mean can not connect. I say out because of the resolution. U still can connect, but u need to know the max resolution of the plasma. hope you dun mis-understand....pai seh

If u spend hours in front of the TV, then it is an investment. When i bot my plasma, it was between a plasma and LCD. Plasma has better resolution, especially when watching tv / cable channels. Lately i have noticed that LED gives even better picture than plasma , so if i am looking for another TV, it will be LED.
