i am a newbie here. Just want to check if any bro can recommend any good brands and light weight tripod to me? and where to buy them?

TK foto will be a good start for tripods :)

The Camera Workshop has a Small Tripod which goes for $75. It weighs less than ANY other tripod in the market which I know of. It is surprisingly strong, and can easily take a GH1 with the 45-200mm lens. This tripod comes with a Ball-head, and attachment is via a quick release plate which is identical to the Manfrotto. It reaches a modest height of 5feet something, and the centre column can be reversed for top-down shot, which is also good as a recopy stand (get a water-level though)...
The feet spread in every imaginable "Karma-Sutra" direction, which is excellent for uneven terrain.
Used with a single leg-extension, it becomes a monopod of sorts as well. Holding on to this one leg, it can provide a decent "over-head cam".There is also a "Hidden Hook" at the bottom of the centre column for you to attach a weight to help stabilize the tripod in case of severe winds.
It folds down to a mere 18inches. And the single-action quick-release (like the Velbon type) for the leg-extension makes this a joy to use.

Cost, weight, size, and functionality, I'd rate this tripod a 10.
It's ONLY downside, is that it will NOT take larger Cameras, such as the 5DMkll nor will it handle large lenses...

It more or less looks like this, except that it is Black in color. Great if you shoot through glass, and don't want reflections..

Have you done a search for "tripod"? There are dozens of threads like yours. sometimes one every 2 days, or even daily. Also, you need to set a good budget.

Oh my your nick is very similar to mine lol. I tot iwas unique haha . Sorry for ot .

Get a sirui or benro. 120-180 budget will do the trick

thanks bros for all the feedback!

even choosing a tripod require some knowledge, so many types of ball heads...

i don't even know where is a "reliable" place to shop for one.

will check out TK foto next weekend.

If you are looking for a tripod which the leg could be completely removed and used as monopod, you may try this Fotopro tripod. It's also Carbon Fiber Tripod.
Please check on this link below:

Hope this help. :)

If you want something that's lightweight, then have to go for carbon fibre. Would advise you to go down to one of the shops with your heaviest camera setup to try out the tripods.

Benro has a series of tripods where you can detach a leg to be a monopod.

I checked out some tripods today. Must say CF TRIPODS are alot lighter than alu types. I wouldn't want to lug a heavy tripod around but will this compromise stability? Secondly the flip and lock release vs round screw lock . . Which do you prefer and why? I checked out tk foto today.

read the tripod FAQ. It's explained there.

thanks bro. can u tell me which tread?

1. A search for "tripod" would have pointed you to it.
2. Equipment Discussions -> Others -> "Basic guidelines on selection of tripod and tripod head"

It's a sticky.
