One best lens for everyday photography?

These are the few lenses to choose from and they are:
1. AF-S 16-35mm f/4 ED VR
2. AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED
3. AFS 35mm f/1.4G
4. AFS 24mm/f1.4G ED

Basically what I am shooting now is a picture of my baby and I would want to shoot some landscape as well.
I have read few threads in here that 35mm focal length is the best for everyday photography but yet again is 35mm will it be enough to do landscape?
I have done my research on reviews for each and every lens that I have already mentioned and I just wanted to make the best purchase for my everyday shoots.
These are some of the threads that I have come across:

16-35mm
24-70mm

Currently I am using D700 with AFS 50mm 1.4G and AFS VR I 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED.
Basically I'm confused. Just feel like testing all the lenses and then purchase it but not sure if I can.

24-70mm is really heavy and huge and I do agree that its one of the best lens.
I also do prefer the lens because of its focal length but yet again its huge and heavy and I might just afraid not to carry it for shoot and ending up using my 50mm instead.
I wonder if there is anyone sold this trinity lens just because of its weight and I don't want to be one of them. :dunno:

The answers you have gotten here are at best, a gauge of popularity of the lenses. There are rental services which you can make use of before deciding what to get.

If weight and bulk is a concern, then take a look at the AF-D 24-85mm f2.8-4 or the newer AF-S 24-120mm f/4. They are slower but offers identical(if not, better range) than the 24-70mm.

You have the 50mm and the 70-200 VR, you are not afraid of weight and size.
You should fill the gap with the 24-70 F2.8, that will be a great lens for baby shots with the D 700.

The only lens i would want to test out are the 35mm and the 24mm.
The other two i have actually test it out only for awhile and they are huge.

Hi to both,
Im not really afraid of the weight as im used to shoot with my 70-200 previously but
I am now so used to using the 50mm and i feel it is much more easier to carry it around but thn again 50mm to me is not wide enough for me to take landscape.
And jeff, I am no professional so what i take is only for myself and my family.

I think 24-70mm would suit me despite on the weight and the size.
Or i could get the 35mm to pair it with my 50mm thn I just have to keep changing
lens thn.
Heavy but versatile, light but troublesome.

Kit's voice of wisdom is really the advice you should heed - everybody brings their own prejudices and biases into a thread such as this one.

You need to try out the focal lengths for yourself. Just because 35mm is the new rage doesn't mean it is for you. I have a feeling a lot of the 35mm lovers are in the honeymoon stage of loving the newest and latest f1.4 wide angle prime from Nikon. If one is really a 35mm lover, one would already have bought and use either the 35 f1.4 AIS, or make do with the 35mm AFD, or have switched to Canon or Leica who have been offering 35mm in the f1.4 variant for some time. I would like to see how many of those who buy the 35 still use it actively after say, 1 year

If you ask me, my own prejudice and bias for primes will tell you that all you really need is a 24mm lens to round out your perfectly fine collection of lenses. A 24mm will allow you to take in wide vistas for landscapes, as well as shoot your baby in an intimate closeup fashion. Your 50mm will handle the rest of your needs. No need for a big expensive zoom like the 24-70, which will be slower than your 50 in speed and at best equal to your 24.

Unless of course you go for the 24 f1.4

See, I just described for you the way I would work. You need to discover your best combination for yourself. Lastly, lots of landscapes are shot with long lenses....
