Well, not a surprise, isn't it :)

From the reader's poll, K5 is ranked #1, 645D is #5, Kr is #8. The only time Pentax was ever ranked #1 was K10D 4 years ago. Now Pentax did it again

Great news. :)

D7K is so close behind.
Sony seems to have done very well indeed.

Unfortunately, I don't seem to be seeing this translate to interest or purchases based on Newbies section here ....
FWIW, interest here is centered around 60D; 550D; D3100; A33/55 (all roughly based on what ppl have declared they have bought or have in mind to purchase)

Or maybe Pentaxians (or Pentaxians to be) tend to be a quiet bunch

Its the sad reality that Pentax is not a well known brand here, plus there is almost zero marketing. You can't expect to change consumers perception without some marketing effort, especially in the face of heavy advertising from C/N/S and even P / O here.

Its a shame because their current line up is so strong.

That's great. :)

But the number of votes and the percentages don't add up to the total. :dunno:

wow, canon is so low.

benchan - top 20, obviously there are more than 20 cameras to vote for..

lol, this is singapore, to be expected. most people are crowd-followers, not researchers.

also, maybe pentax has a great presence in japan?

in any case, pentax is doing a great job with the k-5. and we all thought the k-x was already marvellous as it was!

not great, but definitely more visible... even in the smaller cities like otaru in hokkaido where i was at last week, there were pentax products in the big electronic store that i went to.

i saw a pink K-R, K-5, several lenses, all 3 pentax flash guns and even assorted accessories like original body caps and rear lens caps.

they even had stacks of catalogues at the display cabinets... but it was in japanese so i didn't take ;p

oh ok. After reading it again, i think each voter gets about 5 votes too

Maybe Pentaxians are quieter with their toys? I am guessing there should be quite a few ppl who are interested in Pentax cameras or are using Pentax DSLRs already but they are not members of CS or any forums.

Last week I was at AMK Hub with my wife and I saw a local guy with a K5 + 50-135mm walking around taking pics. As I thought he must be one of our fellow Pentaxians here, I approached him to ask him to help me take a pic for me and my wife. After taking the pic, I intro myself and ask what is his nick in CS. He told me he doesn't go forum one. Haha was paisay for awhile.:embrass:

Very good news for Pentax.
It wasn't too long ago when ignorant folks were claiming all sorts of doom and gloom and even though Pentax's market share still has some ways to go to match the big two, this definitely increases it's mind share among photo enthusiasts on the whole. Hopefully many will sit up and take notice and not remain blur like sotong about Pentax. As for existing Pentax users, we all know a good thing when we see it and given our very price sensitive nature, this kind of recognition is really a feather in the cap.

Well done Pentax!! :)

wow E-5 so high up in that list?
Japan must have a very different market than SG

Starting from K7/KX, Pentax is slowly gaining recognition liao.

Yesterday I was pleasantly surprised to receive an email from a female colleague asking me how much is the DA35mm F2.4. Her husband is using Pentax too and she wants to buy the DA35mm F2.4 as a present for her husband. And another female colleague also told me she read from forums that Pentax cameras are  and value for money so she will be getting one soon to take pics of her kids.

I am happy to just see ppl being more aware of Pentax.:)

i only hope that it doesn't lead to unhealthy user expectations.

many upgraders from PNS often want to use their DSLRs like a juiced up PNS... focusing with LV, expecting strong AF, minimum fuss with manual controls, "user-friendly" interface, beautiful pix with zero user intervention.

this segment of the market is difficult to handle.

they lack the understanding to use a dslr effectively, but can be very vocal in complaining that they find their new toy "disappointing"...

a lot of it stems from unhealthy expectations in wanting to take pro-level pix under challenging conditions just because they spent a lot of money on a new DSLR.

stangely enough they tend to be more forgiving towards bigger brand names... i.e. "oh, its a good brand and camera, just that my skills are not there yet", or "oh i should have bought the more advanced model", etc etc.

but with pentax, its "this is terrible! i should have stuck with the more established brands"... :bsmilie:

and then they will sell their pentax lens away and we get to benefit? :bsmilie:
