actually it should be around there look at sb600 retail 465 it only 30 dollar different and outside selling at 350 so practically sb700 should sell around 380-400

It should. but considering it is a new product which is just released to market, the store will certainly markeup the price. It is just like how mobile phone. Alan confirms its $440, not $395.

Whether its made in china or not, its still a nikon product. Some of your lenses are made in china too. iPhone is also made in china. D7k is made in thailand and there's still the *ahem* problem. In any way, there's a warranty period for a reason.

So is the 50mm f1.8D. You shouldn't worry too much about QC from China if the product comes from such a large company like Nikon. In fact, if it was made in Thailand, it would probably cost more.

Yes u r right. Everything is made in china nowadays and you can't think the price if there is no "china" exist. You SB700 will cost you maybe $200 more without "China". Anyway there is warranty. Which one you prefer?

Actually, since the world started to "Made In China" things get a lot cheaper. I think as long as the quality is the same and is cheaper I don't really mind where it is made. The branded leather good "Coach" are made in China but the quality is still the same. My objection is when manufacturer source for OEM manufacturer or contract manufacturer as a cheaper alternative instead of making themself, i.e. the cost saving must come from somewhere and usually it is the quality and reliability that suffer.
