my factor in consideration
easy to use
easy to carry
strong enough for normal usage
will only be using on the camera

very keen on getting sb400 for the light portable and easy usage
but however not sure of the power of sb400
currently using d90

My vote is for SB700.
It has the features of SB900 (the best Nikon flash), but with a compact body.

This SB700 could satisfy your needs for:
easy to use (check!)
easy to carry (check!)
strong enough for normal usage (check!)
will only be using on the camera (check!)

I suggest you to make one time good investment, rather than buy-sell-buy-sell-buy.

I wanna buy 1 more flash... SB-700 or SB-900.
Can't seems to wait :)

SB-700 will be good if they release it earlier.
Any news Jeff when will they arrive in Singapore?

actually there is not much different from sb600 and sb700 except sb600 is smaller and stronger cheaper. or is there a new function in sb700 that going to be useful for normal usage.

sb400 for leisure, eg going out with familly for friends.
Sb700 for group or serious photo session.. my 2cts

Just choose the SB700.... then can give us feedback. hahaha.
Well for serious shooting, SB900 else SB700.
For normal shooting under budget, SB600.

Should be available in Singapore this month.

Nikon Singapore has updated their website:
http://www.nikon.com.sg/productitem.php?pid=1394-df04359b20
MSRP $499, but you should pay less on the actual retail price

sb400... it fits ur requirement, cheapest, smallest, lightest, simplest

I just buy a brand new Sb-900 set at CP for S$599 during my lunch time.
This is my 2nd sets.

Planing to buy SB-700 if the price is about S$400.

TK foto juz received stocks on sb-700. they had juz announced it in their facebook page.

SB700 is already in stores everywhere. Saw it in Cathay Photo yesterday, I think it is selling for about $450.

I think SB-700 would be good, much more accessible controls than SB600. The SB600 menus are a bit clunky and troublesome to use, and the buttons are sometimes hard to press (don't register properly)

I was at CP-MS yesterday, heard that it's $390. you can give a call to check. :)

There is another one.

Your pop-up flash ;)

Right, good one.

The D90 in built flash is more than sufficient for most common applications & is as good as the SB400. The SB400 is excellent as a cheap & convenient solution if you just need an external flash to solve a problem with lens/hood shadows in your pictures. Otherwise any of the other flash would be a better choice, esp the SB700 which is the latest with more attractive features at a not much higher price. Go for it.

SB-400 can do bounce flash, if the ceiling is low. That's the difference between that and the pop-up flash. But if I wanted an external flash I wouldn't go for SB-400. There are some good applications of it, but it is limited and you'd do much better with a SB-600 or SB-700.

Previously I was also considering between SB400 or SB600...in the end I went for SB400 for its smaller and lighter package.. Still prefer something light to carry around when I am outside... power wise, still pretty ok for me..

But I got problems getting one with warranty few mths back...in the end, have to buy a grey set instead...still working fine though...
