What do you think of this little bugger? :)

I have about 16939 pictures taken on mine.

I'm still using mine and probably took more pictures than yours. But won't claim they are all good photo though haha!

Hi

I bought this camera since 2006. Total shutter count is ard 6.5k. It's a good beginner cam at that time. Now thinking of upgrade to D7000.

Currently using it to practice macro photography.

I appreciate the D50 so much that I find no compelling reason to upgrade at this moment. It works well with my lenses and can hold its own in colour reproduction even against S5Pro. It is even compatible with SB900 flashlight. Very good camera.

I don't own this camera anymore, but this D50 is a gem.

Note that max shutter sync speed of this camera is 1/500. ;)

its actually up to 1/4000 with manual flashes =D you can use an sb 600/800/900 in manual/AA with 1/4000 shutter speed if you use tape to tape up the 2 contacts towards the back of the flash hotshoe.

still using mine, probably at 38k shutter... but my sensor is failing me, there a red line when shoot at high ISO

Can you get that fixed? The D50 is rated at around 50,000 lifetime shutter count.

I thought I had a low shutter count compared to some of the other guys on DPreview and flickr, one guy is on 62,000.

although good, i think its pointless fixing a d50, either the sensor or the shutter. better off topping up for a d90

1/4000 sync speed
Is this tape trick could be done with D70/s ?

This D50 is really a gem

Dumb question; How do you check the shutter count on this camera?

Not a dumb question but really Nikon should allow people to check on this camera. Use a graphics software, I use Irfanview which is free to download. It allows you to view the EXIF information of your picture which will also have information about your total shutter count. I wasn't able to get this information from Lightroom though but maybe someone could shed some light on this.

Ben Ang, Can you tell which two contact points? There are 4 contact points. Is the two small dots near the rear LCD? Thanks

yup. those 2 furthest to the back of the camera. i haven't tried this personally, but read it somewhere. makes sense cos the d50 sensor uses an electronic shutter for anything over 1/250. and it does work with non ttl flashes.

There are only 4 contact points. You just need to find 2.
Based on Theory of Probability, you have 1/6 chance to guess the correct two contact points.

However, Ben Ang has given you a clue, that it's the 2 furthest to the back of the camera. ;)

take a jpeg and upload directly to flickr. then under information and settings it shows everything. if not, find a free exif reader online.

I have tried the Flickr and it shows all the information except shutter count. :(

Thanks for the suggestion though. Never realize Flickr has so many features.
