Viewfinder not align with my pictures?

Hi guys, i noticed that when i use my viewfinder to take a shot. The picture is often displaced as shown in my LCD after the shot is taken. Why is that so? Do i have to do something to the calibration?

I am using a P7000 by the way.

Normal. Viewfinder coverage is not 100%.

the P7000 has an optical viewfinder. Coverage is roughly 80%.

The P7000 uses a separate optical viewfinder which is not linked to the lens. Due to this your frame will be shifted especially for close objects. You can find out more about this if you google viewfinder cameras.

Thanks! i always thought that whatever i see in my viewfinder should appear in my shots.. is this the same for the Digital SLRs like the D3100 and D7000? If their viewfinder is linked to the lends means that everything captured in the viewfinder will be 100% captured in the photos as well?

What you experience is called Parallax error. As mentioned by fmeeran, reason is that the optical viewfinder is not the same lens system used for taking the pictures. In simple laymen terms: this 'eye' is shifted sideways and 'sees' things from a slightly different angle.

All SLR/DSLR/SLT/other cameras that use the main lens also to supply the viewfinder do not have this error. Which means, there is no sifting of angle. But: not all viewfinders cover 100% of the image. But I guess that's a minor issue. Cropping a bit is not an issue and sometimes this margin also saved a few of my shots.
