anybody who doesn't keep your lenses/body in a dry box when not in use? What do you use in place to prevent it from getting mouldy?

the best prevention against fungus is constant use 
if u use your cam and lens very very often, just leave it in your camera bag.

my precious kr is a week old, I'm keeping my camera in an $8 airtight container and threw in a small packet of carrefour branded thirsty hippo white stuff. I use cardboard partition inside the container to organize my lenses and body neatly and some of the bubble plastic thing to wrap the walls of the partition. The only thing I'm missing now is a cheap analog hygrometer. Many ppl said it is necessary to keep the humidity lvl within 40 to 50% to prevent fungus growth and rubber crack.
Its been a week, I've looked into many stores I've known such as home fix etc but they don't sell analog hygrometer anymore. Digital hygrometer is between $30 to $60 so I didn't grab it. Its frustrating and I wished I've invested a $20++ dry box instead of spending so much time hunting for obsolete things and risking fungus attacking my precious.
I've been checking my small packet of carrefour branded thirsty hippo white stuff but it has been dry since day 1. Not sure if this is due to low humidity in my room or because the white stuff is not working at all. Anyway, I've been playing with my precious everyday, so I'm not intending to get a super duper container to store it away for now.
I'm sure many pro will say this is not wise to take care of my camera, but I'm just going to stay stubborn, wait till mushroom grow and then I learn my lesson. :sticktong I'll let you know the result of my experiment maybe in a few months.

I Got my-self an analog and a digital hygrometer, both work fine.
Try daiso. My Hippo also stay dry till now after 2 weeks of opening it fyi
u mean daiso sells analog hygrometer? I've popped in PS's branch but no luck.

one thing i can never understand abt pple is why they can bear to spend so much money on a DSLR and lenses, but refuse to spend a fraction of that on a simply dry cabinet :dunno:

but he said he is playing with it everyday. I dont see a point in putting it back into the dry cabinet if he uses it everyday. By the time the humidity level stabilized, he would be opening the dry cabinet already.
For the hygrometer bought from eBay , make sure u test the reading 1st .( best if compare with a dry cabinet hygrometer） my friend bought 1 and his reading was Always 10% higher then dry cabinet .
I am putting my kx in a challenger $30+ dry box with hydrometer.
At first I use silicon but it only last for about 1 week and the humidity will be more than 60%. Now I am using those daiso moist removal refill pack. More than 3 weeks already and the humidity is still less than 50%.

i already said earlier: if u use it every day, yes, no need to buy dry box / cabinet. just put in the bag.
but that only applies to your camera and the lens u use most often. as your setup grows, you will need to protect your investments. will u put a $1000 lens in a cheapo tupperware with hungry hippo?
its the scalability of the solution that i have issues with: want to protect camera and equipment, buy a proper dry cabinet. otherwise, just don't buy. waste time, waste money to hunt for this, that, and all for a solution that is neither here nor there. :what:
A drycabinet is far more convenient to open/close than those cheap airtight container, and it won't cost more than 100 for a smaller one. The best investment for anyone who likes to keep his/her photo gear clean and dry for long.

it mean $20 per yr
$20/12 = less then $2 per month .
with that u save a lot of trouble . Beside in long run , I dun think the dry hippo method will save u any money

the biggest value preposition is peace of mind! that one is more than worth the cost already...
i'm thinking of getting a bigger one leh ;p collection growing...
Akarui medium size one. 50+ L i think. not quite enough space for the bigger lenses in my collection. Also want more racks so i can organise things better.
wow 120l very big leh maybe detritus can consider .... lol
for me 48l just good (as of now) . top rack 3 lenses , middle rack body , Last rack 3 more lenses.
